The Supreme Court in 08 trumps the Democratic Nominee
I just wanted to say that I will vote Democrat in 08 no matter who the party nominates. Why, because I do not want the GOP to nominate any more justices to the court. Now there certainly are candidates that I favor over one another. If asked I'll gladly voice my opinion over why I think candidate A is better than candidate B. However I will not distort candidate's B voting record, where they stand on the issues, or put them down. Simply put any Supreme Court Justice that a Democrat nominates, will be better on the issues than a Republican nominee

For example, who would you rather see nominate a justice, if given the choice between, Senator Clinton, or Senator Bill Frist? I would go for Senator Clinton's pick all the time. And I am speaking as someone who has "grave" reservations about having Senator Clinton run.

While it's fun and normal to have presidential candidate favorites please let not back stab, spit on one another, and rip down our party with falsehoods and halve truths. That is what the Freepers do. ( General Wes Clark was never for the war, he even stood up for Michael Moore damn it.) I am also not saying that we can't be critical of senator's "A" position on a certain vote, I am just stating that we shouldn't lie about it. Besides stating the truth can sometimes be scarey enough as in the case of say Joe Liberman's voting record.

So please, let's remember that no matter who wins the 08 primairy, let's stand united in this one issue: no more right wing judges. And that's why we have to vote Democrat in o8 as a united front regardless of who wins the nomination. This is just my opinion though, feel free to disagree with me.

1. I Agree WIth You Whole Heartedly. However, I Wish You Luck Getting
some of the others here to not twist, distort, attack by default or swiftboat their choice anti-candidate.

From what I've heard the primaries can get brutal here. (and from some of the refusal to react rationally posts on certain candidates I've seen with my own eyes)

I hear ya, I support ya. I think we should support who we choose and rally for them, but shouldn't have to stoop to the levels of the swiftboaters and freepers just to convince others why our choice is the right one.

I wish you luck on this endeavor, and pray to God it succeeds. Nastiness and Dem Bashing gets us nowhere.

2. Thank you and like you I am tired of Dem bashing.
I mean it's the GOP who are our enemies and not each other. Do the anti-kerry people really think that he would have placed Sam Alito on the court? Thanks for having my back , my friend.

13.  I plan to work hard to get my candidate in office.
But do I have to build my candidate up by ripping apart your candidate? Infact if your Democratic candidate beats me I will probably vote for him. Of course that's just me feel free to disagree with me.

14. Hear Hear! Great Response!
That's what it's all about. We all should work hard to boost our candidates of choice. But we should do so while still maintaining honor, integrity and respect.

At the end of the day, all that matters is that a dem gets the seat. We are all fighting for that same outcome. Those that wouldn't fight to put a dem in the seat, even if it isn't their candidate of choice, frankly doesn't deserve to even be here in my opinion. :)

15. And when there are no candidates?
I have been hearing for many years that must never, ever support a candidate who is not likely to win; otherwise, I might just vote for a third party candidate that actually does reflect my values. So tell me, of all the Democratic candidates who might run for and get elected as President should I support?

What candidate has stood up and voiced unequivocable support for my right to be married to my partner, and then actually backed up that support with actual bills and votes? Not enter in to a separate and theoretically equal "civil partnership", but the exact same full marriage which the Supreme Court ruled in 1967 was "a basic right of man" and which is an option for hundreds of millions of Americans, but not me.

What candidate has had the backbone to take a genuine, long term stand against the policies and acts of the Current Regime? I don't mean the occasional soundbite to please the folks back home; I mean who has spoken reasonably about how Bush and his cronies repeatedly violate the Constitution and how it is the duty of every patriotic American to demand answers? If a member of Congress, has this candidate consistently attempted to vote down spending measures that do nothing more than extend the waste and graft of the Current Regime?

What candidate has dared to consistently challenge the White House on the war in Iraq? Again, I don't mean pious platitudes to appease their constituents. Has this candidate been, at every turn, a gadfly demanding answers? A voice of reason against the drumbeat of war?

Those are just three issues, out of many, that I look for in a candidate for national office. These are positions which reflect some of my values. I will gladly support any candidate who unequivocably acts -- not merely stands -- for my basic civil rights, who acts to protect the constitution and prevent fiscal malfeasance, who stands for world peace and international cooperation rather than war and profits for the military-industrial complex. I desperately would like those candidates to be Democrats.

Who is likely to win, who represents my values? Please: I have been begging for an answer since 2000.

11. You're right as rain on this one DanCa, I agree because ...
I think that the Dem Party is the ONLY hope the USA has of getting back America from the lockstep dictatorship the Bushies have forced on us.

The BIGGEST Dem bashers are the Dems themselves. Wake up people. The future is NOW.

4. I see what you're saying
In the meantime, I will work my ass off working for my ideal candidate.

A professor once told me that one should care because it's all about the Supreme Court, the grand-daddy of them all.

12. You will find that your professor was wrong.
What many here failed to see during the confirmation hearings, being blinded by mostly straw dog issues, like abortion and the death penalty is that fact the power and scope of the SCOTUS is being eroded by the nominations of Roberts and Alito.

They GOP plan to put the Judiciary back in it's place, as one leg of the three legged stool. Part of the conservative movement is to put muzzle on the Judiciary and re-emphasis the power of the legislative and executive branches. The biggest hindrance to their movement has been the Judiciary and they almost have achieved their goal.

The House and Senate will have to, in the coming years, weigh much more heavily in the progressive movement ability to make things happen than the SCOTUS.

9. Prepare to be unhappy in '08
To say it was ugly in '04 is putting it mildly. There was a whole lot of "my candidate's great, your candidate sucks" going on. You'll learn to love the ignore functions.

16. Couldn't agree more
And no amount of endless discussion about various issues will change the one salient fact:

Hillary Clinton, Mark Warner and Evan Bayh (to name the most loathed by the liberal base)would nominate candidates for the USCC that are MIRROR IMAGES of the nominees we would get from John McCain, George Allen or Bill Frist.

Anyone who votes third party truly needs to have their head examined.
