What if the situation was reversed; the US taking over UAE's ports?
Edited on Sat Mar-11-06 12:14 AM by HypnoToad
How would the people of the UAE respond?

How would Americans respond?

Who becomes "the racist obstructionist" then?

I believe turnabout is fair play here. The issue burning Bush right now is that the UAE wants to take over our ports. And we all saw the response for that.

2. We wouldn't complain; they would.
Every country has a right to control foreign investment.

3. It would never happen...
I like the idea of your thread... but I sincerely doubt it would ever happen.

5. Well, it's the idea that counts. It gets people to think.
Really think.

And, no, realistically it would never happen. But the idea of the US buying UAE ports would surely get people thinking RATIONAL thoughts. Which is a scary thing, I'd presume.

11. I wish I could love your signature, but
I am not a "mankind" and I wish people would love me for being human or even better as being a living species who need to be loved.

12. Oh, good grief...

"mankind" refers to both sexes. I won't apologize for the past and all the inferences it brings, and I prefer to read it in a positive, all-inclusive light -- which is unusual for a guy who has the rep around here about being excessively negative!! :(

If we all were to be so nitpicky with verbiage, we'd be wasting megabytes of disk space with needless amounts of things like she/he, (s)he, her/him, they, them, and so on.

That or you're just suffering from depression, in which case I suggest you get some professional help - pronto. You're needed around here and you are liked by many, myself included.

I know! I'll get PC on everybody and photoshop it so it says "Humankind". A little revisionism is always more fun, just ask Steven Spielberg... but not anybody who saw his revisionism...

If you really want to attack me, there are far easier - and more effective - avenues to use than this trifling hyperbole.

Besides, I thought you'd be more interested that it is a man incapable of knowing emotion reading a scrawl that tells him to have emotion...

Or, in other words, I don't play games. Especially when it's Wargames Of The Sexes.

DEFINED:
mankind \man`kind"\, n. n.]
1. The human race; man, taken collectively.
(1913 Webster)

7. Wait until we invade Iran and use the UAE for land troops to fight
Iranians. Then you can ask them yourself.

9. Why should I care? (answer follows)
As was pointed out to me once, I seem to prefer reveling in hyperbole.

8. We are not beautiful people.
We have taken over many things in the last century. We are now surprised when it happens to us. Actually, when the sun didn't set on the British Empire, we were there making our stakes in many countries.

Roosters roosting or hens coming home to roost? Regardless of the barnyard references, we do have to look at ourselves and examine whom we are.

10. I know who I am and where I'm headed.
Can the politicians say the same? You betcha.

And, like me, none of us can be totally prepared as even things we don't expect can happen.
