San Jose, Twin Peaks in san Francisco and Santa Crua Mountains. Hwy 17 from San Jose to Santa Cruz closed for snow 2 inches today, 8 traffic accidents for two inch snow fall, well it is California.

4.  A lady in Berkeley interviewed by the news here said 30 years.
She said it was a couple inches and traffic had to be stopped, right in front of her house.

35. I Remember 1976
I was living in Castro Valley on the East Bay. One morning ,while walking my dog, I noticed some snow flakes falling out of the sky. I didn't think much of it because I was in the hills and it's not uncommon for the East Bay hills to get dusted every now and then. So I left to attend some classes I was taking at Chabot College. As I got closer to the bay I noticed all the roof tops were white and it was absolutely surreal.
Today, as I look out my window it's snowing pretty hard and I have almost four feet in my yard. But, then again, -- I'm in Ketchum Idaho.;-)

23. We got a lot out here in Tigard...
Well, half an inch anyway, overnight. Thursday morning it turned to snow/rain for the rest of the day. This afternoon, lots of sunshine, but it's freaking cold out there tonight.

27. Quite awhile--at least 4 years since we have seen snow in Eugene.

It snowed a bit yesteday--beautiful big flakes but did not stick. When I awakened this morning, we had 2 inches on the ground. Maybe more tonight.

3. Walking home tonight I saw "snow" on the parked cars on my SF street
It was probably hail turned to slush, but it had been at least an hour since the hailstorm, and the ice on the cars looked just like piles of snow. Freaking weird.

6. We had snow on Mission Peak this morning too, none lower though.
Think it will go to 500 feet tonight or tomorrow. Hard to imagine snow in the city, thats interesting.

28. Yeah, this has been a weird winter
my poor rose bush has tried twice this winter to put out new growth, and today will probably be a third time. It's going to be in the 50's the next few days and then dropping again to the 30's. I don't think we have had the snow average we usually do. The past couple of years it stayed in the 50's until December.

13. clouds are going right over our area, we had thunder once this evening.
I expect to get up early and see snow on the hills, but the weather guys said it could go down to the bay level.

17. National Weather Service has just issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning
in effect for Santa Cruz County effective from 10:23 PM until 4:23 AM Saturday! They simultaneously issued a snow alert until 4:00 PM Saturday for our area. :crazy:

Nice light show at the moment but I should probably shut down my computer since we have no lightning arrestors on our power lines here. This is only the third or fourth time I can remember actually seeing lightning here in the fifteen years I've lived in this house! I kind of miss it since I moved here from central Florida where we used to get thunderstorms on an average of 110 days a year.

center downtown, it was snowing in downtown San Jose, Santa cruz mountain was reported to have snow today as well. The chron didn't have pictures of those areas.

22. I know the difference between hail and snow
and it SNOWED in San Jose today! Cal Trans and the CHP shut down Highway 17 this afternoon due to heavy SNOW and the 9 accidents it caused in just under an hour. You can listen to the Fire Dispatch calls on line in San Mateo and Santa Cruz Counties at this link if you don't believe it. We've had three Emergency Broadcast System alerts in the last half hour on the TV and radio. Top story on the 11:00 PM news is the several inches of snow on Hwy 17 and 6" of hail in Soquel! DAMN!

In all my years, I've never ever ever seen that.

... The California Highway Patrol also shut down Interstate Highway 280 in San Mateo County because of hazardous weather conditions, according to a CHP spokeswoman.

The spokeswoman said northbound I-280 is closed between Edgewood Road and state Highway 92 because of conditions including heavy hail, snow and poor visibility.

She said authorities are discussing whether to also shut down the southbound lanes.

29. In five years
in the 90s I never saw a snow flake on the Penninsula.

I have seen the clouds come down on that stretch of 280 to make visibility limited - but never to the degree being described. Wow.

24. Only 8! You're doing great. Every year in Wisconsin, it snows, and people
crash like they've never driven in it before. We just drove hours north to catch the last of the snow so we could cross country ski. Our neighbors had a California kid here in Wisconsin for the last few weeks. He was beside himself playing on the backyard luge. Snow in the backyard was completely foreign to him. Great fun. Enjoy.
