Charlie Crist could be Florida's first gay governor. It's a very
open secret around Tallahassee. This may get quite interesting.

This would be a dramatic change from Jeb Bush.

Charlie Crist. He's just as bad as Jeb, if not worse.

"The only thing important is his competence, understanding and... willing to serve ALL the citizens of Florida.

This would be a dramatic change from Jeb Bush."

I had a teacher friend who wrote Charlie when he was Education Commissioner complaining about the amount of funds that were being spent on FCAT preparation materials.

He wrote her back that there were no FCAT preparation materials... Even as our children were bringing home FCAT practice tests on a regular basis.

And that was just a little lie. There are plenty more of those and loads of big ones in his resume.

If our state legislators, office holders, and officers had Pinnoccio's curse of nose growing when they told lies, the rest of us in the state would have to move out to make room for the telephone line long noses stretching out from Tallahasse.

2. Better to be a "Womanizer" than gay
Edited on Sat Mar-11-06 09:52 AM by Dirty Hippie
Remember this?

"Are you a homo?'' asked host Dave McKay.

"No, man. No. I love women. I mean, they're wonderful,'' Crist replied.

Crist and McKay have been friends for some time and the two proceeded on air to discuss the Attorney General's female friends and dating.

"Yeah, well, fortunately I have, uh, I'm very blessed,'' Crist said.

``I've seen you with some great-looking women,'' McKay then said, ``I've heard some women even complain that you're a womanizer.''

5. We had a gay governor in Mississippi
Edited on Sat Mar-11-06 09:58 AM by Devlzown
back in the '80's, if the rumours are to be believed. The word around Jackson was that Bill Allain, who was then serving as the state's Attorney General, was gay. About 2 weeks before the election, some black drag queens came forward and said they had had relations with Allain. The media was all over that like stink on shit until allegations were made that Leon Bramlett, Allain's Republican challenger, had paid the men to come forward. The whole ugly mess backfired on the Republicans and Allain won the election.

7. Texas current Governor may well be...
Edited on Sat Mar-11-06 10:03 AM by hlthe2b
there were discussions on a number of university forums about to break out into MSM that the reason for his wife's leaving him and threatening divorce was having caught him with a male cabinet member or aid (Chief of Staff, maybe?) I've forgotten some details but the weekend it was to break, he and his wife were apparently summoned to the WH, where intense political counseling, er "marriage" counseling managed to get them back on track. That Rove is good with this kind of thing, apparently.

What is so RUDE about what I said? I DO NOT think Good Hair to be free of such.

I was speaking tongue in cheek. Sorry that I didn't make myself clear.

12. Gay or not
He's still a right-wing freeper. And now he's being backed by the main Swift Boat funder.

TALLAHASSEE - In a sign that the race for governor may become nastier than imagined, the same Republican consultant who helped Vietnam War veterans attack John Kerry in 2004 has put together a political committee in Florida and has already raised at least $508,000.

Almost all the money for the group -- $500,000 -- has come from a single contributor, Cape Coral real estate executive Greg Eagle, a supporter of Attorney General Charlie Crist's bid for governor. Eagle's son Dane is on the payroll of the Crist campaign and travels with Crist to campaign events.

Yet the Crist campaign maintains it knows nothing about Floridians for a Better and Brighter Future, which according to Internal Revenue Service records was organized in late December, and whose president is Christopher LaCivita, a veteran GOP consultant and strategist.

Crist ''does know Greg Eagle and he is a supporter and a friend, but he didn't know he had any specific contributions,'' said Crist spokeswoman Vivian Myrtetus.

13. Crist is the best of the lot.
He is pretty sensible and not as extreme as many Republicans here. I would prefer a Democrat, but he is the best among that side.

Foley might run against Nelson, rumor only so far, but in our paper here.

14. In the closet gay folks, especially married, Republican ones
(and, yes, i'm generalizing here) tend to make the worst kind of public policy decisions when it comes to gay and lesbian issues.

They are so scared of being outed, and they despise themselves so deeply, that they go out of their way to craft and, or, participate in truly hostile, appalling legislative attacks on gay folks.

This is why, despite what a number of people believe, it is perfectly appropriate to investigate and publicize someone's orientation if they are running for public office.

Is he as bad as he sounds?
