6. The joke is on the interviewees.
The map had Australia marks as Korea, or Iran, or France - you can see that in a couple of the pictures, and the people read the words instead of reading the map.

Funnee!!!

11. Australia seemed to be deliberately mislabed: Iran, France, N. Korea, etc.
A good way to test whether these folks knew anything about the world's geography. And Americans DON'T. Many studies have shown this to be a fact.

5. Wow!! The level of Ignorance is beyond astounding!
They seem semi-retarded
I mean they can communicate and convey their thoughts but what they say has no logic or
reasoning in it.

14. Under-educated or worse?
Jay Leno often does a feature asking people in the street about
a variety of topics. I'm appalled at the very low level of knowledge
or even informed opinion exhibited. Of course, I don't know what
was edited out; maybe they do the dumbest clips for laughs.
Nevertheless, the message is not encouraging. And they're not
all Californians, lots of tourists included.

16. I fully believe it
After one of my students kept referring to Japan as "down there," I realized that the first order of business on the first day of my Japanese 101 classes was to pull down the world map and show the students where Japan is.

Before I took a group of students on a study tour of Japan, I gave them a blank map to fill in as a homework assignment. There were comments like, "I didn't realize Russia reached all the way over there" or "I thought Taiwan was closer to Vietnam." (That's "Thailand," dear.)

17. That's even sadder
Edited on Sat Mar-11-06 03:27 PM by Nutmegger
In my history class, a student wanted to cheat off of me on a little map quiz because they didn't know where China, Russia and "Korea" were located.

And I'm suppose to be in college.

Is this the dumbing down of America?:boring:

18. I was taking an FAA class with people from all over the country.
We had to fill in the blanks on a map of the USA. The two guys from Colorado asked me which state was Washington DC.
