Will Jon Stewart Take It Easy On Bush Now That He's Hosting The Oscars?
Is this some sort of Rovian plot to get Stewart under control? Will Jon Stewart sell out?

5. The Oscars Are Old Hollywood
The Academy is made up of old movie stars, execs, etc. Rove and the Republicans have close ties with them.

2. Why in the world would you think he'd do that?
Maybe the opposite will happen -- he'll bring some sanity to the Oscars.

18. Jon does not have a price.
I've NEVER seen him sell out to anybody, and he's been on TV for a fair amount of time now. Obviously, the producers will tone down his script to avoid any embarassing moments, but I'm confident that he'll throw some good stuff in :-)

6. if anything, he can make sure he never gets invited back again
like Chris Rock and David LEtterman. Preferably by skewring politicians and the media mercilessly rather than because he made no sense or was overly crude.

7. I would imagine
that he's struck a deal with the network and that he will NOT be apolitical. But I am sure he will make fun of Dems, too, to appear 'fair'. I daresay he will be more controversial than Chris Rock, though. I don't think we'll all be talking about an insult to Jude Law the next morning...

9. Stewart can't win...
If he skewers Bush, he'll be criticized by the RW mainstream media

If he lets up on Bush just a hair, many on the left will accuse him of selling out.

16. I quit watching TDS when Jon went easy on Ringo Starr.
I mean, we all know that he couldn't hold a candle to Pete Best, but did Jon bring that up?

Nooooooooooooooo. What an asswipe.

14. Dammit, not this shit again.
"Is Jon gonna do right by DU, or is he gonna be a decent emcee for the fluff we call Hollywood for a couple hours?"

:eyes:

As long as I laugh, I'll be happy. Anything else is gravy.

You want a Stewart smackdown? Campaign to have him booked on a news program. You may recall a segment on Crossfire...

Bottom line, Jon Stewart is not YOUR monkey, either.

15. I think he will make fun of the Rethugs (and some Dems)...
but, I think he will keep it fairly safe in the sense that he won't come across as angry.

20. You bring up a good point. Jon will make fun of ANYONE who does anything
stupid. He'll make fun of both the left and the right. It just so happens that there is enough on the right to make fun of lately that they could fill up 3 hours a night with it.

That being said, he is a flaming liberal, so I don't think he'd ever say anything too terrible about anyone on the left.

21. yes, but Michael Moore...
got greeted with stony silence when he railed against Bush in 2003... I don't think Hollywood is as liberal as many portray it to be.

26. You couldn't tell the crowd sentiment from their reaction.
Some said they applauded him overall, others said otherwise.

I definitely recall someone who was there saying that the reaction where he was (the balcony, I believe) was very positive and vocal, but that they weren't heard by the microphones.
