Action Steps for the Feingold "Censure Bush" Proposal


I have a request: Russ Feingold really stuck his neck out today, and it would be great if he -- and every other Senator -- knew that we had his back. It's a gutsy move, not without risk in the polarized environment that is Washington these days and with the hatchet squad that Rove and his ilk generally deploy when their actions are questioned, so you have to hand it to Sen. Feingold for having the guts to raise the censure issue -- not just in the privacy of his office or at home, but right there on national television for all the world to hear.

So, what am I asking you to do? Something small by comparison, but if enough of us do this, it could start a little snowball rolling down the hill. By the time it reaches bottom, who knows how big it will have gotten -- but I sure like the sound of the word avalanche, so I say we get it going.

Your action steps: call both your Senators first thing in the morning and ask if they support Russ Feingold's censure proposal. If they don't, ask what their position is on the issue -- and why.

(Kpete-I have not been Overexcited about the results of our efforts in the past. But like a good warrior I will try again to get through. One of these times, we will be heard. IF NOT NOW-WHEN. Tomorrow, I will MULTI-TASK!)

How do we do this? Do we need to contact Skinner? This is definately worth getting everyone on board with and sending it out nationally.

Second, I will be travelling on business all week and tied up in meetings, but I have sent emails to Stabenow and Levin expressing my feelings they better support Feingold as I WILL be watching the roll call. Knowing Debbie, she'll be out getting her hair done. Useless. Totally useless.

....although maybe instead of popcorn it should be a bag of pretzels.

and even more importantly- Call your representative and ask why they don't introduce articles of impeachment over the illegal wiretapping!

The president has admitted he broke the law. And yet the Senate Intelligence Committed abdicated its oversight responsibility by refusing to even conduct an investigation.

On March 12, Senator Feingold called for the Senate to censure Bush for systematically authorizing illegal wiretaps of Americans in defiance of the authority of the FISA court. Even retiring justice Sandra Day O'Connor sees the looming threat of dictatorship.

When will members of Congress who hate Americans and their rights stop conflating the checks and balances in our Constitution with treason? The REAL treason is by those who would defend any criminal behavior by the commander in chief in the name of patriotism. Crimes against our own citizens do NOT make us safer and cannot be tolerated in a free democratic society, and especially not when justified by fear-mongering about the threat from outside.

Obama (fat chance)
Durbin (leaning towards support)

radical and that is why he's for censure.

Seems to me that censure in the senate is the alternative AFTER congress makes its case for impeachment, and the case proves to be too weak.

NOT if it is presented as an alternative to impeachment, so I hope Feingold clears that up.

Both told me that the senators have not made a statement yet (i.e., have not formed an opinion yet, so I gather). They both asked for feedback and I told them I strongly supported Feingold's move, and that I hoped the senators would do the same.

Let's keep hitting the phone banks, people! They're figuring out which way the wind is blowing, so now's the time!
