Tommy Douglas: Progressive Icon
Since I csn up here to Canada I've immersed myself in Canadian History, and the one person that really is deserving of "The Greatest Canadian" (which he won a couple of years ago) is Tommy Douglas.

What an amazing human being; I would have loved to have been able to shake his hand and vote for him.

1. Remember that list of items he was responsible for instituting
in Canada? It was during the "Greatest Canadian". They just had to run that list of great legislation and it went on and on and on. I almost kissed the screen.

Where is that list??

2. I remember that
It was mind-boggling how much he single-handedly changed the landscape of Canadian Government. I have to find this; when I do, I'll post it here..

6. Please do. I'm having a crisis of faith with the NDP. They seem

to want power more than they want anything. Me, I'm for whatever stops neocons these days. Though if I was an NDP at the federal level I would be seething. Because the Liberals steal all Tommy's great policies and people don't know. But still. I don't want to see the Liberals ran into the ground (at least they take the greatest policies and implement them). I like being in a Liberal Democracy. I like health care. It makes us more competative so we can have good jobs even when the dollar is high due to Alberta Oil. I guess stealing Buzz Hargrove was the spoiler for them. The spoiler for me was NDP planning to kill off the Liberals. Seems like they got an ear worm from the USA. Where the Liberals are all just supposed to break apart & build new passtime of hating each other and hurting each other and leave the wasteland for the neocons to run around in for 30 years. NDP worked great with the Liberals in the last government. Why they had to go for an election... they could have had a few more years of high profile. I'm still mad.

I wonder how Tommy would feel about Africa. the internet, coops & Free trade? I'm with Stephen Lewis on that. There has to be reform. There has to be a chance for people to sell. Cause the corporations never leave a wit of wealth behind. So lowering subsidies will help Africa. Help them sell to the world. Help them form groups and corporations. Otherwise it will be 100 years of poverty and sickness for them. Child marriage, warfare and all sorts of crap. While we in Canada sit on oil and watch the TV.
