Full-Page Impeachment Ad in SF Chronicle Today
Edited on Mon Mar-13-06 07:38 AM by Hissyspit

Email text from ImpeachBush.org:

Congratulations to everyone! The impeachment movement has done it again. Today's San Francisco Chronicle (Monday, March 13, 2006) carries the full page ad calling for the Impeachment of Bush, Cheney and other high officials! This ad comes directly on the heels of the widely and nationally reported actions by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors calling for the Democratic delegation to support impeachment in Congress.

A great thanks goes to all those who contributed to make this ad happen. As with the New York Times ad placed in January, this ad will bring tens of thousands of new people into the campaign to Impeach Bush. We want to maintain the momentum and place the ad in various other newspapers and run radio spots as well. We can do it with everyone's continued support and commitment to this campaign.

- snip -

With each passing day this movement is going stronger and more powerful. It is becoming a voice that cannot be silenced or ignored. Today, Senator Russ Feingold is introducing a resolution calling for the censure of President Bush. This is a good sign, and evidence that the heat from the impeachment campaign demanding accountability of high officials is being felt, but it is not enough. Only by continuing the public pressure will impeachment become a reality.

And remember -- tell your family and friends to vote in the impeachment referendum by going to http://www.impeachbush.org/ !

Please help us take the next steps and keep this momentum building. If every member and supporter of the impeachment movement made a donation, this ad could be placed in newspapers across the country. If you have contributed before, consider making another donation now. If you have never donated, this is the time to take action. Please donate today by clicking here.

--All of us at ImpeachBush / VoteToImpeach.org

THE COMPLETE TEXT OF THE AD:

"WANT TO REMAIN A CONSTITUTIONAL DEMOCRACY?
  • He lied to Congress and the American people to start an illegal war of agression
  • He set up a worldwide network of secret prisons, torture and assasinations
  • He unleashed a massive unconstitutional wiretap and spying operation against the people of the United
    States

Join the People's Lobby for Impeachment.
Demand Congress impeach Bush.
Send a letter today by going to: www.ImpeachBush.org

The Constitution cannot defend itself. The people must act.

President George W. Bush, Vice President Richard B. Cheney, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld, and Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales have committed violations and subversions of the Constitution of the United States of America in an attempt to carry out with impunity crimes against peace and humanity and war crimes and deprivations of the civil rights of the people of the United States and other nations, by assuming powers of an imperial executive unaccountable to law and usurping powers of the Congress, the Judiciary and those reserved to the people of the United States.

Articles of Impeachment drafted by former Attorney General Ramsey Clark available at ImpeachBush.org and VoteToImpeahc.org.

Over 600,000 people have already voted to impeach - have you?"

but as our colleagues note..... cui bono if we get Dickhead or Dennis the Menace instead of the Chimpenfailure?
Our situation is like stage 4 cancer, not a zit that can be popped.
Then again, I'd give my left nut to see GW doing the perp walk.

16. I still think we don't want to jump the gun on impeachment
I know the prevailing thought here is "no time like the present" but I still think we should wait until after the midterms to try to impeach. First of all, we're likely (more likely than ever) to have a majority in the House come 2007. Not only would that make impeachment much easier (is a republican house really going to allow their boy to be impeached?) but, and this is my favorite part, as the majority party we would have a democratic Speaker of the House. Speaker is 3rd in line for the presidency, so impeach Bush and Cheney, and bam, we've got a democrat in office 2 years early.

If we somehow managed to get a republican controlled congress to impeach, even if we got them to impeach both W and Cheney, then what do we get? President Hastert? Not much of an improvement. Honestly, under GOP control we'd be lucky just to get Shrub out, and I don't think anybody wants to see President Dick.

I say we should wait to see if we get the "sure thing" option. If we don't take back the House, we can still go ahead and try to impeach because at that point we know it's not going to get easier. But by waiting a few months, it may get much much easier with the possibility of much better end results.

18. The groundwork has to be laid sometime
And even if impeachement isn't a real option as long as the GOP controls all three branches of government, the pressure can build now so that come November, voters have a clear choice for what they're voting on. If Bush's popularity numbers continue to spiral downward, and congressional Republicans continue to make excuses for Bush rather than hold him and his corrupt cabal accountable, then folks will have a reason to vote for Democratic candidates: Get this bumbling, murderous incompetent out of power.

21. I agree, it's not too early to get the ball rolling
I'm all for Feingold's censure for example. I'm just worried that republicans will jump on impeachment proceedings and do everything they can to get the vote in while they're still in control. Then democrats are in the unfortunate position of having to start impeachment proceedings a second time. Joe Averge Doesn't-Pay-Attention would then likely say "them democrats are just out to get poor old Bushie" and it could actually hurt us in November.

and is now mentioned in the media. Sure, the right wingers will attack it, but the more impeachment gets mentioned as a option the more people will rally behind it.

That is why we can't give up and must ignore the naysayers who say it "ain't gonna happen" .
