NBC's 'the Book of Daniel' pisses off the over righteous
Edited on Fri Jan-06-06 10:37 AM by mopaul
it airs tonight, a fictional story about a clergyman with a disfunctional family, alcoholic wife, promiscuous daughter, gay son, and he himself pops pills and hallucinates that he's talking to jesus.

apparently this christ is not the correct christ and is most likely the anti christ according to one offended lady.

it's so so so easy to offend the humorless bornagains.

15. This show shouldn't offend christians any more than
"Mork and Mindy" offended believers in alien spacemen.

7. Funny thing is
I have no intention of watching it because it seems too religious. These people just can't be happy unless we are watching the 700 club and Davey and Goliath all day.

Did you catch the Moutain Dew commercial spoof of Davey and Goliath a while back?

"We got hosed, Tommy...we got hosed..."

I nearly peed meself.

18. Yes it was awesome
I used to love that show when I was a kid. I had no idea that it was connected to religion. It didn't take with me.;-) Though I still wish my dogs would talk to me. Then again it would be an endless demand for food from my pug so perhaps it's for the best.

D&G is owned by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Trust me, the ELCA is not a fundie denomination.

I said the same thing to my wife last night.
A black Jesus would have caused many to think the Rapture started when 2/3 of the fundies died of aneurysms from the previews.

BTW, Aiden Quinn was at the Cleveland "Vote for Change" Concert last year - just walking through the halls like the rest of the Kerry supporters. Makes it even better knowing a Kerry supporter is on a show pissing off the fundies.

10. It must be pretty good if it pisses these folks off
Anything other than a bloody corpse nailed to a cross a la Passion O' The Christ isn't the "correct" Christ to them.

The bornagains complain about how they are portrayed in entertainment, then proceed to act exactly like the Christian scolds and killjoys that appear in TV shows.

And I beleive the actor's name is Aidan Quinn.

16. Here's an idea...
If they are so upset over this show being broadcast why not just not watch something else?! Like the old adage says if you don't like it, change the channel. But noooo...The morally superior in this country have decided that this show is evil and in poor taste and are pulling it all together from certain affiliates so no one can see it.

Personally I'm not interested in watching this show. Not that I have a hair up my ass about the premise but because I just don't find it interesting enough to watch it. But just because I don't find it interesting or entertaining doesn't mean that I want the damn show boycotted!! I mean geez...I found Touched by an Angel vomit inducing, but guess what? I changed the channel!

so, I would say that I am fairly religious and somewhat pious.

That being said, I've got my TiVo programmed to record the entire season. LOL

And if there are not enough watchers, it will be pulled. If there are enough, it will stay.

25. Without all the publicity, it probably would have died a quick death
Now, it may actually have gotten MORE people to watch it. Based on this review, it sounds like a pretty lousy show but the publicity is probably going to get curious people to watch it.

26. i don' usually watch network TV, but
I'm setting the VCR for this one. And all because of thte fundies: if they hadn't been making such a fuss I wouldn't have bothered.

'sides, I liked the actor who's playing Jesus when he played a psychotic geologist in Deadwood.

the local fundies (and there are billions and billions of them around here) haven't strong-armed KJRH to kill it. We shall see.

32. Aidan Quinn tried to pick up my sister in a bar in
Chicago about 20 years ago. I think he could do better emoting, and work on his diction. He slurs his words a lot, but he picks some interesting characters to play.
