Batting for Democracy! Dream of A Million Voter March.
Stevie the Man and I have been thinking. We need a new form of protest that shows the Neo-Cons we mean business. They've stolen our elections. We can bicker all we want about the decline of the Democratic Party and the possible need for a 3rd party. But it's a hollow argument when our elections are rigged.

Now, I thoroughly believe in peaceful protest. But the opposition has gotten too used to us wearing tie-dye and holding paper mache puppets (although I applaud the creativity and spirit myself!) What we need is a new look. A new attitude. A voter's march.

With baseball bats.

What we are envisioning is a peaceful march with 100,000 participants wearing somber tones, walking through the streets of a major city wielding baseball bats, and at the end of the march, we will symbolically smash the Diebold Machines that are holding us captive to this illegal regime.

Don't be afraid of the baseball bats. There is nothing more American than baseball, so they say. Picture it. It will be a peaceful image. A strong image. An all-American image. Plus it will be 100,000 peaceful Americans with bats. Now that's my idea of National Defense.

Not a bad start.

1. Marching with baseball bats is a sure way to wind up in jail
...or worse. I mean, honestly. It'd be viewed as antagonistic as all get out by the police. It'd be a bloodbath.

3. We could use fake baseball bats... the cheap plastic kind.
Anyway, I'm thinking that the only way at this point where we can make any real progress in dealing with the voting machine problem is to come off as more threatening... like "we're mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore!"

If you're afraid of the police, tell your tales of fear to the Selma and Montgomery protesters and get back with us.

Our democracy is too important to cower. Or to be sheepish.

9. I don't know. Why not real bats? Could I carry a cane?
Is it illegal to carry a baseball bat? I don't want to be gimmicky about it. How come it seems like there is no way to stand strong and present a united front against these bastards without apologizing for it.

Maybe we're still all too comfortable. Scary. I'm afraid all of America's going to become the Gulf Coast and people are going to say. It's not so bad! There's a water pump three miles down at least. Things go in cycles. We're just in a little recession. Stop complaining.

4. For those who think "baseball bats for democracy" promotes violence...
Edited on Wed Mar-15-06 02:23 AM by stevietheman
think about the greater violence being inflicted on our democracy by the "opaque voting" forces. And if you're afraid of how police will react, tell your story to the brave Selma and Montgomery marchers. Really, we are certainly past the subject of fear with regards to protecting our democracy, aren't we? I certainly hope we're past that kind of fear.

Further, this is an idea that's very open to revision. Like, if full-size baseball bats wouldn't work, fake plastic ones or miniature bats could be substituted.

And like readmoreoften said, baseball uniforms might also be a good substitution. Or maybe even just baseball caps. Who doesn't have a baseball cap?

And even if this didn't become a major march or other event, this could become a TALKING POINT or a FRAME to get the media and citizenry talking about those damned voting machines.

5. I keep flashing on a line from the original Terminator movie
When Reese is talking about "smashing those metal motherfuckers into junk" or some such.

People REALLY need to be woken up to the danger these machines pose to our country.
