11. Welcome to DU
and FYI "morans" is not a mistake in spelling here. It's because of this.

:hi:

4. Because the media spin is that what the prez did is LEGAL , REASONABLE
and NECESSARY to protect us from the terra-ists!

Now why would you want to stop him or even censure him for making us safer?

:sarcasm:

5. Because the majority of Democrats in congress think that
censuring the President is not the right thing to do. They don't think that his actions warrant this kind of response. To the majority of Democrats in congress looking strong on security is more important than upholding the Constitution or protecting citizens' rights and freedoms...

6. Because 4 year old (Republicans) and 5 year old (some Democrats)
would think that they are attacking bu$h because he is trying to keep us safe.

It is like if you listened to little Johnny say he was going to go over to Suzie's house when you were not supposed to be listening. But because you are mad at Robby, then it is OK to listen to Johnny's conversations. And by listening to Johnny, you are keeping Suzie safe from Robby. Is that clear?

9. 4-year-old explanation
"If somebody in America is talking to Al Queda, I want to know about it."

straight from the 4-year-old George W. Bush....

nevermind that this has NOTHING to do with breaking the law...
nevermind that he could monitor this without FISA for 72 hours without a warrant anyway....

forget that he admitted he broke the law and bragged that he would continue to do so...

forget that he LIED in a speech where he said "wiretaps require warrants".

12. The howler monkey media gets a red flash from K. Rove, saying
"this harms the Democrats because it shows they take the terrorist's side against our preznit durin' a war!!!"
Howler monkey media howls and re-howls this message 24/7 for a couple of weeks.
The brain of the public marinaded in this shitstew becomes saturated with the idea.
If anyone opens their mouth, out comes "this... harms the Democrats... because... because... they took the terrarsts side... durnawar... agin' our preznit'?"
Everyone says that everyone says this; nobody dares to say different since everyone so says it.
Perception concocted and approved in the RNC/Madison Avenue media complex becomes reality.
Just like in North Korea.

13. Bush peaked at you and listened to you when he shouldn't have
He used secret spies to watch you wee wee and poop, and take a bath. And say your prayers at night and kiss your mommy and daddy. And when he was caught, he lied about it, and said it was because there might have been bogeyman under your bed. Lots of bogeymen. Not just any bogeymen, but evil bogeymen who wanted to kill you when you are sleeping.

He said he wasn't spying on you because he liked to do it, he was spying on you so that if a bogeyman was about to crawl out from under your bed, he could SMASH 'EM before it got a chance to kill you in your sleep.

Those stupid-head old liberals think that strong men shouldn't be allowed to protect you from the bogeymen under your bed. They say it's against the law, and if you have bogeymen under your bed, you should call the police, and they'll check under your bed first, before you go to sleep. But Mr. Bush says the bogeymen are too clever for that...they'll just hide in your toybox until the police are gone.

The dumb doo-doo liberals think that Mr. Bush should have to obey the law, but Mr. Bush says that the bogeymen don't care about the law, so he doesn't have to, either.

Now a few liberals want to give Mr. Bush a time-out, send him to the corner for breaking the rules. But other liberals got ascared about the bogeymen, too, and think that if we don't let Mr. Bush protect us from the bogeymen, no one will like us anymore, and they'll all be too afraid to sleep over at our house because we won't have any way to protect them from the bogeymen.

17. Well, it's like this:
think of the government as the big bad bear who roams the forest looking for oil for his wonderful fur. Sometimes, he finds the oil in his own patch of the forest, other times, he has to go a little farther. Most of the time, other bears are happy to share their fur oil, but sometimes he runs into an ornery, scary, scraggly bear who doesn't want to.

So, the big bad bear has to ask permission of the other forest bears to make the ornery bear share his fur oil. They say he needs a reason, so he says it's just a matter of time before the ornery bear attacks with big beehives and other mean, nasty things that can hurt the bear council.

So, they give him permission, but the big bad bear had a little secret. The ornery bear didn't have any beehives, nor did he have the materials to build beehives. But, that didn't stop the big bad bear from taking the other bear's patch of forest with allllllll it's fur oil and saying the woods were safer since the ornery bear was in the enchanted prison.

Meanwhile, in the big bad bear's patch of forest, his bear staff were having a hell of a time keeping things in order. Other bears like the mean, scary Mexican bears were coming into the forest in huuuuuuuuuge numbers. A big storm hit the forest, but big bad bear had all his tools and money tied up in fixing the ornery bear's forest that he couldn't help his own bears. And, his assistant, the former head of Halli-bear-ton was busy mauling bear lawyers.

But, one day, big bad bear was on vacation in Texas riding his mountain bike and eating pretzels, when he falls off and chokes. You see, the big bad bear had gutted his medical resources, so all the bear's doctors and all the bear's nurses couldn't put him together again.

Peace ruled the forest for thousands and thousands of years.

The end.

18. My bet is that polling shows that many people are perfectly OK
with being spied on if they think it makes them safer from all the terrorists running around our country.

It's the classic freedom vs security false dichotomy. The Dems are afraid not too many people care about civil liberties, and they may be right about that.

My sense is they should stand up for the constitution, on principle, even if polling shows most people aren't concerned.

That would demonstrate leadership and values even if currently and politically the issue d'jour isn't American outrage at the loss of our constitutional protections.
