Nuclear Bunker Buster Bombs againt Iran........
.....This Way Lies Madness.....WARNING:!!!! Very disturbing

quote.........
The latest information I have had from the followers of Bush is that he has demanded and received permission to use nuclear “bunker busters” in Iran in a preemptive strike. As a nuclear veteran (Operation Redwing, Bikini, 1956) I can affirm that this is absolute madness. The “bunker buster” is a cute sounding name for a nuclear horror. Air bursts are horrible enough, doing incredible destruction through heat, shock and high initial radiation. The fallout from an air burst is registered around the world. A surface or subsurface burst is even deadlier and more long lasting.

The Castle-Bravo blast at Bikini in 1954 was a fifteen megaton surface blast. It blew a hole over a mile wide and four hundred feet deep in the atoll, completely obliterating the island and vaporizing over thirteen billion cubic feet of coral, rock and water, sending it in a radioactive cloud extending into the stratosphere. The fallout over the atolls downwind was devastating to the people and ecology there. All of that material is rendered extremely radioactive and

2. IMHO, if Bush uses one even Blair will pull all his troops out of
Iraq and go home. He will then become more hated over the hold world.

5. Going out on a limb here.
Should the bunker busters be used I bet the military minds will be disappointed in their effectiveness, even if the bunker busters work as planned.

6. You want to bet thousands of lives on it?
quote.........
The United States currently deploys both conventional and nuclear EPWs, including about 50 nuclear-tipped B61-11s, which can penetrate 2-3 meters and have reported yields between 0.3 kilotons and 340 kilotons. The 2003 Department of Energy (DOE) budget specifically requests funding for a “Robust Nuclear Earth Penetrator” (RNEP) that would be more effective than the B61.

“Our findings unequivocally refute the contention by the Bush administration and the Pentagon that nuclear bunker busters could be used in Iraq or anywhere else with minimal so-called collateral damage,” Dr. Sidel said.

“The nature of that ‘collateral damage’ would be fatal doses of radiation to anyone within a kilometer of the explosion and acute radiation sickness for potentially thousands of people who would die excruciating deaths over several days to a week or more.”

9. I am with you
In my EOD days training at bombing range clearance gravity bombs were known to turn sideways upon penetrating the earth and travel on, sometimes coming back up out of the earth and coming to rest on the surface. If the earth is hard enough penetration will be seriously reduced. This also covered armor piercing bombs with time delay fusing/firing.

I predict disappointment with the end results of the bunker buster scheme.

Any other damage? Who gives a shit. Not our present leaders.

7. the bunker buster is a myth, it wouldn't work
1) bury your stuff deep enough under kilometers of granite. Don't have the time to dig ? use an old mine... Even better a new one, but deep enough.

2) make sure that the terrain is very hilly to deflect direct impacts

3) plant bunker decoys everywhere. A little radiaoactive source and plenty of truck moving will make think that you are working there, while the real stuff is done somewhere else.

4) or in a dictature state, start your little enrichment under a vast crowded city...

8. Conventional Warhead On ICBM
What I have heard is that "they" have removed the nukular warheads from several ICBMs and replaced them with conventional warheads, in anticipation of using them as super-bunker-busters against Iran's deeply-buried nukular sites.
