WASHINGTON (AP) -- Jessica Simpson loves President Bush. She's just not a big fan of Republican fundraisers.

The Hollywood starlet and tabloid cover girl was on Capitol Hill Thursday to lobby Congress for Operation Smile, an organization that provides reconstructive surgery to children with facial deformities.

But all anyone wanted to know was why she turned down an invitation to attend a Republican fundraiser with Washington's top star -- Bush.

"We went back and forth and we could never get the details worked out," said her father and manager Joe Simpson.

"When it became obvious that it was not just a state dinner, it was more of a fundraising event, that is the wrong purpose of why we are here." Still, he said of the president, "We are huge fans of him and of his family, his girls. Jessica loves the heck out of him."

I've never understood the appeal of such generic (!@#$#). Even white rice is usually served with something else. She's an empty headed hack, but at least she elected to not engage in orchestrated bribery solicitation with the chimp-in-chief. But "loves the heck out of him"? What a twit.

I not challenging you but only expressing the fact that I don't know her. What has she said in the past? As she has said nothing in this case, I can't assume that she agrees with her father. If I were her father and in charge of her career, I would be saying everything possible to avoid controversy. To me, it sounds like an effort to stem a potential tide of right wing talk show slander that everyone knows could take place when any celebrity takes the slightest position in opposition to Bush. Daisy Dukes snubbing the cowboy makes this a story. Right wing hate radio seeks out and thrives on this type of stuff.

I can't say I like Jessica Simpson but I have never heard of a reason to hate her. She's not a very good actress and seems kind of slutty. But today I thought she actually looked quite elegant and charming when I saw her on television. What has she done in the past to inspire hatred?

She might actually have fewer, actually, considering her performance on the Newlyweds, thinking that buffalo wings came from buffalos and all.
