History Channel has it ass backwards.
The show about John Lennon's FBI file. They said that radicals wanted to make the RNC national convention in San Diego in 1972 make Chicago '68 look like a walk in the park.

The only problem is both the Dem and Repub conventions were in Miami that year.

2. A quick googling
(simply since that's the kind of contradiction in facts that makes for a question that has a quick and handy answer) ...

Apparently San Diego was the planned location, and about 3 months before the start of the repub convention they pulled out of San Diego and opted for Miami.

If the "radicals" were doing the wanting 4 months before the convention, there's no contradiction.

3. I have a lot of problems with some of their shows
Edited on Thu Mar-16-06 10:33 PM by aint_no_life_nowhere
To me, the history channel often presents very slanted views of history, often extremely Anglo-centric. I didn't see the show about John Lennon, but my problem with them not only concerns their mistakes as to facts but to their particular slanted views.

10. Yeah, what's WITH that?
I loved them five years ago. I've only been able to watch them when I've been taking care of parents who had cable.

Imagine my shock and disgust 2 1/2 years ago when I discovered they'd morphed into the WAR CHANNEL.

I guess there's a Biography Channel out there that got all the good stuff that used to be on the History Channel.

16. I'm glad I'm not the only one that realized this...
When they first started out they were actually a good souce for info. Saddly Discovery's Military Channel (which was once Discovery Wings-and it was actually somewhat decent) is on the verge of also becomming right (if it isn't already).

At least it's Science Channel is still pretty decent viewing-wise.

It is fascinating.

11. Know your propaganda masters - History Channel = GE/Hearst
Edited on Thu Mar-16-06 11:04 PM by NoodleyAppendage
A&E Television Networks, a joint venture of The Hearst Corporation, ABC, Inc. and NBC Universal, is an award-winning, international media company offering consumers a diverse communications environment ranging from television programming, to home videos/DVDs and music CDs, to Web sites, as well as supporting nationwide educational initiatives. AETN is comprised of A&E Network(R), The History Channel(R), The History Channel International(R), The Biography Channel(R), The Military History Channel, The History Channel en Espanol, Crime & Investigation Network, AETN International, and AETN Consumer Products.

So, now that you know this...why would you expect anything different from a joint cooperative effort combining a conservative muckraking company with a conservative war profiteer company?

Haven't you noticed that the History Channel reruns the "Saddam as a Nazi" bio whenever King Chimp is in political trouble?

J

14. Turning a grain of truth into a sandcastle of disinformation...
I take anything presented on the History Channel with a grain of salt. History is not static and tends to take the form and bias of those presenting it. Given the financial backing of Hearst and GE, this makes me vary wary of any "facts" presented by the channel.

20. HC had some doc about JFK conspiracy theories on before
Edited on Thu Mar-16-06 11:48 PM by Hobarticus
they aired JFK one night....it was pretty rank. They had a lot of things just flat-out wrong.

For example, they supposedly debunked the "magic bullet" theory by demonstrating how that one and the same bullet went through Kennedy and Connelly because Connelly sat slightly to the left, instead of directly in front of JFK. This conveniently ignored the Warren Commision's own hypothesis about the bullet's path.

Then they showed the pristine "magic bullet", as the Warren Commission had displayed it, then said the bullet wasn't pristine and showed a flattened bullet. Well, which is the Warren Commission's bullet, the one the WC says is their bullet or the one HC says it is?

I turned to my wife and said, "do they think we're stupid? So much for the History Channel".

It just had some bizarre right-wing half-truth horseshit feel to it that we've all gotten used to lately.
