re: $9 trillion dollar debt, righties are pushing this false argument...
on some boards I vist that during the Clinton administration the national debt was $6 trillion, painting the picture that Clinton spent 6 trillion more than he brought in and that the "Clinton surplus" is a myth. Many of the righties are referencing this website...

http://www.toptips.com/debt_history.htm

What they are purposefully being misleading about is the difference between deficit spending and the national debt.

The national debt can be thought of as the accumulated debt the government owes from YEARS of borrowing money to pay off annual deficits. It is the ACCUMULATED total of all money owed to individuals, corporations, state or local governments, foreign governments, and other entities outside of the United States Government.

During the Clinton years we did not practice the usual annual "deficit spending"...we did not spend more than we brought in...hence the "Clinton Surplus". And, other than the growing interest on the debt, by not spending more than we brought in we did not, I repeat, we did not contribute to the national debt by spending in the red.

Seems to me conservatives would love this...secretly they do which may explain why they hate Bill Clinton so much. He did what Bush/Bush/Reagan could never do(those three men had record-breaking deficit spending).

Classic case of penis envy...

1. I'm surprised they bother trying to make it sound reasonable.
Just lie. Nobody cares if what they're saying is true or not, anyway.

4. I find it shocking how the sheeples believe the spin...
it's hard work dispelling this nonsense...but, by the recent poll numbers, it appears the message may be getting thru.

11. How gullible they are!
They fall for every lie in the book and never even get angry when they learn they were lied to. They are morons.

3. This is ridiculous. Bush starts a war in Iraq, spends money like a ...
a drunken sailor and Clinton is at fault.

Clinton is hated by conservatives because he was liked by so many.

Conservatives don't like nobody.

6. Have you ever managed to get an answer from a Clinton basher
to the question: What, specifically, did he do to warrant your hatred of him?

I can't get anybody to answer that question. They just hate because they are programmed to hate and they hate Clinton cuz some gas bag on the radio pounded that meme into their tiny brains.

People with that low a level of critical thinking skills will believe anything.

10. I do not hate anyone, but Bush comes close and I can be very specific ...
why I don't like the guy. Pure greed and total disregard for others have been demonstrated over and over by this guy.

5. This is a chart of the US Natl Debt in constant Y2K dollars
You can see that an enormous and approximately constant rate of increase began under Raygun. The growth in the debt slowed to a halt and briefly reversed under Clinton. It has resumed at an even faster rate under Bushco leadership.

Another chart

And another chart

8. The national debt has been sitting at a T(rillion) for a lot longer
than Clinton was in office. America and Russia wasted trillions on who had the bigger dick. :eyes:

12. This is like talking to a group of fighting 3rd graders...
you catch one kicking the other... "well, he started it"

now, what parent, teacher or any other responsible authority would say:

Really? then I'll let you off the hook and punish the person you just kicked.

but that reaction what they expect...WHO to believe, exactly? Oh, I know. The press is the only ones dumb enough to buy that bullshit.

13. The welfare of this country is non-partisan.
As long as people continue to put party/ideological allegiance ahead of the truth, the US is screwed.
