V for Vendetta Report: Dallas, Tx

Just thought I would pass this on. Went to see VforV this evening in Dallas, at the IMAX theater on Webb Chappel road.

Myself and my best friend arrived at said theater 45 minutes before showtime. The line had long since formed, and had wrapped into a 4-turn queue. It only got longer as we waited. The theater was packed to the gills. An additional line could be seen for the showing on one of the "normal" 35mm screens. The showing before ours had sold out (I asked) as had our showing, and the one after. Mind you, this is in a special theater that costs $2 per seat more than the regular ones.

The demographic was totally mixed. There was a decided lack of comic nerds present. I saw two such obvious groups, usually any "comic book movie" has a bigger representation of that subculture.

No one can see this movie and miss the political thrust. There is an OBVIOUS Rush Limbaugh clone (right down to the drug use), and the leading villains are all of the conservative christian mold. The audience enjoyed the film. No walk outs. No grumbling or complaining afterwards, I was listening for it.

As we left, an equally large group was queued up to see the next showing.

It is time.

Yes, the political message earns a 10 in my book, but the movie itself was fundamentally uneven and sometimes a little confusing. Some of V's choices in the movie rubbed me the wrong way, too.

i thought it was an ok movie. i'd give it a 7. natalie portman was good.

Big crowd, mixed demo. After the movie, plenty of applause. And one guy yelled out, "Fight the Republicans!" which brought more applause.

Everybody seemed pretty jazzed walking out. I thought it wasn't the greatest movie, but the political statements saved the day and made it worthwhile. What few brain dead people there are left in America will certainly have an eye-opener after this movie.

It wasn't very, um, subtle!

Frankly I am stunned by it.

Topeka, Kansas. Probably about 50 there but it was showing in 2 theaters. Lots of little uncomfortable chuckles. Really a stunning movie, people did not get up to leave the second it was over, they sat there for a little while.

I want to see it again.

to expect and then: Bang--the most nakedly blatant anti-government, pro-revolution film I've ever seen.

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised. :-)

I was not disappointed in it at all, if anything it was more powerful and held many more "out" references than I expected.

One thing I noticed right away was the use of the 1812 Overture. For those that don't know, the part of the piece they used was the ending. When the chimes come in and the blasting starts I always cry, enough so that I have had to memorize the last page or I can't play it. The reason is because the chimes and bells represent the church bells calling and telling the people that it is over and they are free. Just a little tidbit, I cried at the movie then too. I am such an easy mark!

And I felt an energy in the audience I've never felt in the theatre before. A feeling of barely-contained energy. People are past ready for change. Did you feel it?

but I am in Kansas after all. Nothing here gets real exciting, ya know? I was with my husband, my oldest son and one of his friends (they are on spring break from college) and they were pretty pumped from it. When the pharmaceutical info came out my husband just looked at me with his eyes wide open, I don't know why that part in particular but he did. I myself am really pumped by it. I don't know how long before I can relax enough to go to sleep but it really did move me and excite me and strengthen me in some ways.

too. Even in the middle of the Bible-belt, I think people are sick of feeling betrayed by those in power.

I felt the movie was empowering. It showed that in spite of the government's best and most evil efforts, in the end, they were simply outnumbered. :-)

Wow... how beautiful.

Next time I hear it, I'll be bawling away. Especially if it's used for the right reason in the movie (haven't seen it yet but I hope it's got the happy ending the Overture suggests--don't tell me if it doesn't!).

that they used that part. I will have to look it up to be certain, that is the story I have always been told and I have been playing that one for many years. It represents great joy and freedom when the bells ring, it is so moving but many people are too busy plugging their ears when we fire the cannons to really hear it I am afraid.

With the end of the conflict over, we return to the chant, this time performed by the full orchestra with a peal of bells for the victory and the liberation of Russia from French occupation.

I was laughing ass off as the serious dark film took a short humourous break.

The movie asks, if the government was responsible for the attack/virus, would you want to know?

After 5 years of debating people about 911, I think many people who have served in the
military or who are extremely nationalistic can not even consider the possibility of our government being responsible for 911. They don’t need to see the confiscated
Pentagon tapes, they KNOW a 757 crashed at the Pentagon.

We have a light form of Totalitarianism right now in America.

You can vote but you can’t verify if the Diebold machines counted accurately.

You have freedom of speech but if you want to verify what the government
is telling you is true, then you are with the terrorists, hate "America"or are a conspiracy theorist.

Even Roland Reagan said Trust, but verify.

Can you imagine the hysteria of tens of thousands of people dyeing from
a viral outbreak? It would make a terrorist attack look banal and would be
very easy for a government to take complete control.

I won’t say how but Natalie Portman goes through a major transformation. It’s a transformation our Democratic senators need to go through themselves right now.

The movie is quirky with its verbiage and bossa nova music but it does make its point.

Rant over, go see the movie.

It was able to draw me in.
It was courageous for the producers and sponsors and everybody.
It was 3/4 full and was the late showing, over after midnight.
It is time
