Who the hell are we fighting in Iraq? Does anyone know? I guess they are insurgents when we go after them and find that we have killed innocent women and children minding their own business inside their homes with fathers and grandfathers. Then we call them "Iraqi rebels." WTF?

1. Now it is sectarian violence
So does anyone know?
I actually think they are changing up the names to make it look like we are making progress.
But the bodies keep coming home.

2. You forgot Saddamites, Iranians and the Three Little Pigs.
These people are so far off track I really don't think they know who they are fighting.

3. Parsing the resistance: links and stats
The attacks on civilians could be two things: most obviously, an incipient civil war; less obviously, false flag operations to discourage sympathy for the resistance and encourage sectarian divisions. The second sounded more credible after this story:

Israelis & Saudis agree--al qaeda presence, influence in Iraq is minimal:

Iraqis at Cairo conference call insurgency legit so long as it only attacks occupation forces:

The vast, vast majority of Iraqis want us OUT, so it's pretty clear why the insurgency will never be completely stamped out:

Slide from suppressed CPA poll of Iraqis about occupation and insurgency:

(sorry it's so crappy--AP's fault).
