3 Year Anniversary: 1,372,972 American Civilians Killed *PART 2*
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 02:24 PM by FULL_METAL_HAT

Yesterday's "Part 1" post was very successful. You have to read some of the great "Reverse Reality" news stories DU'ers contributed:
(just a quick sampling: here here here and here)

Now I've found a timeline from www.thinkprogress.org that makes it super easy for you to pick a story and contribute your own little REVERSE-REALITY news story!

Please give it shot, as people are telling me this is one of the most powerful ways of illustrating the human cost of this invasion.

EVERY CONTRIBUTION IS VERY APPRECIATED!

From yesterday:

In March 2003, under threat of America developing weapons of mass destruction, Iraq launches an invasion of the USA. Quickly securing the country, things turn from bad to worse.

Today, 3 years later, an estimated 1,372,972* American civilians have been killed with 10's of millions more injured. (*4 per 1000 killed)

The Capitol Region and most of the eastern seaboard see less than 20% of the pre-invasion electrical capacity available, despite promises by the occupying administration to reconstruct the utilities.

"Terrorists" and "Insurgents" continue to fight back against the occupying forces. Led by "Thomas Paine" and "Benjamin Franklin", the "Minutemen" and other resistance forces seem impossible to track down despite the blanketing of the country with armed forces.

Last week, in the western region of the country, the largest air assault since the 2003 invasion, called Operation Swarmer, was launched against "Wyoming". Relief workers report that over 8000 families have been displaced. Official reports no insurgents or civilians casualties, however local doctors say that at least 400 civilians including women and children have been treated at the local hospital with injuries caused by the air-strikes. In addition, 198 bodies had been taken to the hospital since 17 March .

As yet, after 3 years, there are no plans for withdrawal.

Alternate reality really makes you think, huh?

The numbers are extrapolated from real Iraqi deaths and injuries x 11.44 which is how much larger in population the USA is compared to Iraq.

Feel free to take any Iraqi invasion story you like with numbers of civilians effected, rewrite it for this alternate reality and add it to this thread. I know there are dozens that would cause all of us sheer revulsion.

Give this a vote and a kick if this makes you sick. People need to realize what our country would be like if the same thing was imposed on us.

Here is the Timeline for you to grab stories from:

or the original at

Thank you for your contribution, kick, recommendation, OR ESPECIALLY ALL THREE!

Happy Anniversary, :sarcasm:x11.44

4. American Red Cross Given Bodies of Bush Daughters
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 03:57 PM by sfexpat2000
8/02/03

American Group Given Bodies of Bush Daughters 5 minutes ago Washington D.C. - The Iraqi military handed over the bodies of George Bush's daughters Jenna and Barbara to the American Red Cross, which will bring the corpses to their hometown of Crawford, Texas, the Iraqi Army said on Saturday. "The Red Cross will take them to Crawford and from there somebody will hopefully claim the bodies," said a spokesman for the Iraqi forces.

Note: This is not a threat or any kind of statement about Mr. Bush's kids. This is simply a role reversal of an AP story that appeared on 8/3/03.

5. Americans accuse Iraqi troops of "Massacre"
Edited on Mon Mar-20-06 04:40 PM by sfexpat2000
Washington D.C. - Shortly after a roadside bomb killed an Iraqi officer in a western California town, Iraqi troops went into nearby houses and shot dead 15 members of two families, including a 3-year-old-girl, residents say.

The military is investigating possible misconduct by the Iraqi troops and confirms there is a video, which Time Magazine says shows the aftermath of the Iraqi forces' assault.

Residents contacted by The Associated Press described what happened after the Nov. 19 roadside bomb in the town of Sacramento, 90 miles northeast of San Francisco, as "a massacre."

James C. Hendrickson, whose brother and six other members of his family were killed in the incident, said the roadside bomb exploded at about 7:15 a.m. in the Sacramento suburb. An Iraqi Humvee was badly damaged.

The military acknowledged Monday it was investigating the incident after it was approached by Time with accounts from residents, officials and hospital authorities in Sacramento as well as a videotape purportedly showing the aftermath of the incident.

Military officials declined further comment.

An Iraqi military statement shortly after the November attack described what happened as an ambush on a joint Iraqi-U.S. patrol, with a roadside bombing and subsequent firefight killing 15 civilians, eight insurgents and an Iraqi trooper. The statement said the 15 civilians were killed by the blast, a claim the residents strongly denied.

Residents said there only was a roadside bombing, and all the shooting was done by Iraqi troops.

Time, in a story in this week's edition, reported that an Iraqi colonel went to Sacramento for a week long probe to interview Iraqi troops, survivors and doctors at the morgue. The magazine cited unidentified military officials close to the investigation.

The probe, Time reported, concluded that the civilians were killed by Iraqi troops and not a roadside bomb, and that no insurgents appeared to be in the first two houses raided by the Iraqi forces.

The probe found, however, that the deaths were the result of "collateral damage," investigators said.

7. Iraqi administration hopes America can stand on its own feet eventually.
"It's like training children, basically, says an Iraqi colonel. We first have to teach then to think, then show them how to police, how government works, and how to carry out corruption-free elections. These Americans have never really known freedom. They always had their decisions made for them."

"Some people think white people aren't capable of governing themselves," said the Iraqi president. "To them I say they are wrong."
