Poll question: Second Preliminary Poll on 2006 elections.
Edited on Tue Mar-21-06 10:13 AM by mutley_r_us
In January, I posted a preliminary poll to gauge how DU feels about the midterm elections. A lot has happened since then, so I'm posting another poll to see how our opinions have changed. Please feel free to comment.

Thank you.

2. I'm not watching the press conference
It is hard to say, but I think we have a chance to get the senate. Getting the House woudl be harder.

I also think it's a mistake that we aren't trying to nationalize the election (i.e. make it a referendum on Bush (the way the Republicanoids did in 94)), but probably not a fatal mistake.

3. I think there's a chance...
perhaps slight, perhaps not -- that Democrats can gain both. People are unhappy with the Republicans right now. I'm seeing the signs everywhere.

4. Yesterday, I would have voted "Dems will win the Majority"...today
I am not sure yet. This has become such a damn roller coaster. We have known crooks in the majority and people still listen to them. We have an "acting" president with numbers in the bogs...and yet, nothing is changing. I'm going to vote my optimism though. :hi:

I often change my mind by the day, too. :hi: Oh, and I like your journal.

6. Thank you mutley!
It is such an unstable political environment. I often find myself irritating my dad with questions of "What was it like..." hoping to be able to draw comparables that all is not lost.

I like your journal too. The journals have been a great tool in rooting out some really gem threads that got lost. I spend most nights doing "random journal" now. The thoughts of so many are so provocative. :hi:

7. My dad says he remembers the political environment
being very similar to today during Vietnam, so that gives me hope that things will calm down eventually.

8. I usually get that too...But my dad was a (cringe) war backer then...
this time around he is as outraged as the rest of us, but still holds the "What can we do mentality..."

13. House - Yes. Not so sure on the Senate though
there are just not enough competitive seats.

14. I went with Other, explanation inside.
I'm quite positive about our chances in the house, particularly if things keep moving in the direction that they are now. The senate is more touchy, simply because of the number of seats that are competitive. We need to pick up six senate seats to have a majority.

We have a pretty much guaranteed pickup in PA, and close, Dem-leading races in MN, TN, and MO. There are also possible close races in MT, and OH. To get our six pickups, we'd have to lose no seats, and run the table on everything else within reach. That's not impossible, particularly if the Republicans keep stabbing themselves in the face with a fork, but it's also far from guaranteed.

16. MD also has a Dem seat up, and the race is already getting tough.
Big news around here.
