Dear Ms. Thomas:

I wanted to say "thank you" for your attempt to question President Bush yesterday. I found his response to you rude, condescending and patronizing. He did not allow you any follow-up question, despite several attempts by you to pose one.

Furthermore, there is ample evidence that he directly lied to you when he said he didn't "want" war. His first Treasury Secretary, Paul O'Neill, has written that Bush was already talking about "wanting" to invade Iraq during the very first cabinet meeting (well before the events of 9/11).

I also must say that I was really pissed off that not a single one of your colleagues rose to your defense; as I told my wife last night, the WH press corps behaved like "Bush's bitch" in failing to stand up for you.

Of course, given the press corps' record in beating the drums for this war before it began, I suppose it would be expecting a bit much to expect them to defend the professionalism of one of their colleagues. Please recognize that there are millions of Americans just like me; we don't buy the "stab in the back" theory being promulgated right now that somehow the press was to blame and we stand behind you 100%.

I got a nice reply from her when I sent an email hailing her for her journalistic integrity. It may have helped that I know her niece who is a local news anchor at TV 8 in Grand Rapids, MI, but I have read that many others have received replies as well.

It's amazing that she takes the time to acknowledge email.

I wish we had more like her!

We were walking down the street and my wife recognizer her and had to introduce her to my daughter. She was very nice and friendly considering we just walked up to her on the street in DC no less.

I wrote her after I saw your post and she wrote me back...wow...thats so cool!

I guess the internet isn't just a vacume after all...we are all people here...connecting!

Ms. Thomas - I must thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing your job as you are. It's been like living in some parallel universe for the past few years as "journalists" have followed the market for fear mongering and false comfort, giving readers and viewers fuel for the basest parts of our humanity. I salute your courage to question this trend toward comfortable and cowardly propaganda, and only hope that others in your line of work will be shamed by your example into once again finding their way back to the real journalistic calling, which as you have said, is to seek the truth, wherever it takes us.
