So Bushie wants kids to learn more science and math...
...but at the same time he wants to stifle scientific teaching and teach faith-based pseudo-science such as "intelligent design"?

Did anyone else catch this when Bush was giving his speech?

2. I did not listen
but if he wants them to get that pretty soon we will have to ship them off to more intellegent countries.

Note to teachers...not about you, K? Love teachers.

7. I caught the last part of the speech, and most of the Q&A's
I had to drive from one end of Orlando to the other, and back again - which gave me plenty of time to listen. He was basically speaking to a very friendly crowd in West Virginia, Freeperville USA. He said so many things that I wanted to challenge him on. I only wish I would have had something to write on, so I could have taken notes.

3. This doesnt make a whole lot of sense.
How can someone who is actively advocating that we teach kids faith-based non sciences like "intelligent" design, but at the same time he wants kids to be learning more math and science? Talk about a non sequitor...

:nuke:

4. Take off your shoes little pardners
And you can count to 26 just like I do.

Step on a landmine, and subtract 4. That gives you 21.

It's easy!

5. 150,000 soldiers + 28 million Iraqis + 300 billion dollars =
2326 dead (and counting).
That's his New Math.

6. Of course he wants kids to learn more science and math
as long as they conform to 'christian' principles...or, as the fundies say, "when science and the bible conflict, then the bible is always right".

So I guess pi=3.0 and bats are birds.

8. OMG, he did say "one of the things you will confront is science"
Somebody asked him what challenges his generation would face when it's their turn to lead this country. Bush started rattling a list of his usual pratter, and then said "One of the things you will confront is science" - this is when he started talking about the need for more education in science and math. I just wish I could have recorded that, because it would have made a great sound bite.

9. Some enterprising journalist should ask * to define the
"scientific method"; I would love to hear his response to that (and I'd also love to hear DU speculate as to what *'s response would be :)
