Flight instructor warned FAA, breaks down on stand in Moussaoui trial
WP: FAA Reportedly Dismissed Moussaoui Concern
By Jerry Markon and William Branigin
Washington Post Staff Writers
Wednesday, March 22, 2006

In emotional testimony in the death penalty trial of Zacarias Moussaoui today, the former manager of an Arizona flight school that trained one of the Sept. 11, 2001, hijackers told a federal jury that she had expressed alarm about her student to the Federal Aviation Administration and cried when she learned he had flown an airliner into the Pentagon.

Margaret Chevrette said she helped train hijacker Hani Hanjour at Pan Am International Flight Academy in Mesa, Ariz., near Phoenix, from late December 2000 until March 2001. She said Hanjour, a Saudi who is believed to have piloted the American Airlines plane that crashed into the Pentagon, was a poor pilot who spoke limited English....

***

When she heard about the Sept. 11 hijackings, "I already knew in my heart that Hani was a part of it," Chevrette said....As Chevrette spoke, her voice hoarse and breaking at times, two family members of the Sept. 11 victims cried softly in the third row of the U.S. District Courtroom in Alexandria.

Chevrette said she reported her concerns to the FAA during Hanjour's training at the flight school but that the agency did little in response. She said an FAA official who oversaw her school suggested she obtain an English interpreter for Hanjour, which was against the agency's own regulations....

***

The day after the attacks, she said, her FAA contact called and told her, "Your worst nightmare has been realized."...

4. "If only we had known their names and seat numbers..."
I'm paraphrasing here, but something very similar came out of our pepetually scowling Secretary of State's mouth when challenged during the 9/11 hearings on why the tragedy couldn't have been prevented.

Here we have an everyday American doing what's right, and government bureacracy drops the ball and as a result thousands die.

Margaret Chevrette is one of the true heroes in this disgusting mess, and the only recognition she will ever recieve is to be haunted by those events. May she somehow find peace.

6. I wonder if there have been suicides amongst those who dropped
the ball? How do they look at themselves in a mirror?

8. Well he is already convicted
so it's not like he is going to walk free nor should he. This is just for sentencing and they want him dead. Dead men can't be interviewed 20 years from now.

I'll post this here--I don't subscribe to LIHOP or MIHOP but (this comes from something I read from Michael Moore actually) this "bad pilot" hit a 40 foot tall side of a building with a 70 foot tall airplane going at least 350 MPH????

11. Yeah those Republicans really protected us, huh?
That Bush just took that bull by the horns and got an investigation going and had that pilot arrested and then sent back to Saudi Arabia where they tried him and put him away for life.

And then the Republicans - who care so much about the safety of Americans - caught the rest of the hijackers and stopped cold their plot to blow up the WTC.

The Republicans under Bush saved us all, by golly!

No. Wait. They didn't do a goddamned thing and 3000 people died and a lot of real estate was gone and.....

REPUBLICANS ARE ALL ABOUT PROTECTING AMERICANS WOOHOO!!!!!!

:sarcasm:

13. So, the pilot who made that complicated maneuver into the
Pentagon was in actuality a bad pilot?

I'm speechless because I've read that that was a very difficult maneuver.

Not trying to flame the conspiracy theories here, but that is quite strange.

15. Yes, his skills were so bad
Nobody who reads about him and the maneuvers that plane accomplished gives the official story any credence at all. There is no way Hani Hanjour, who has been desribed as incompetent to fly a single-engine Cessna trainer would have been able to complete a descending 270-degree spiral, dropping the last 7000 feet in 2 1/2 minutes (I fly a bit and 3000 fpm is a fast descent), end up on the right position, heading and altitude to nail the Pentagon, then bring the plane in so exquisitely that he hits the first floor without touching the lawn. Ask any experienced pilot if someone accustomed to the behaviour, control response and sight picture of a 100-knot Cessna 172 could have flown a big twin-engine jet at 460 knots and executed what is essentially a "touch and feel" maneuver so perfectly, on his first time at the controls. Give me a flipping break.

Here's another question - given that the official story is that four hijackers were on each plane, how have they determined which one of them was in the pilot's seat? I hear the identities of the pilots repeated as fact all the time, but how would anyone know? There were no intact remains, and I don't think the hijackers ID'ed themselves to air traffic control...

16. Great questions - and there are many, many more
like them that remain unanswered. Does anyone care?
