Is there a support room for those who have seen "V"?
Edited on Wed Mar-22-06 07:15 PM by TwoSparkles
Spoilers! Read no further unless you want to know the end of the movie, and other details.

I just returned from "V is for Vendetta."

I cried at the end. The sea of people fighting against the government was so inspiring and
it was such a triumphant moment. However, it saddened me, because the United States lacks
"a sea of people" when we so desperately need one.

There were so many amazing moments. This movie will definitely soar to cult status.

I laughed once. When Gordon was showing Evey his "collection" there was a government
propaganda poster on the wall that sported the phrase, "Coalition of the Willing!". Loved
that.

Just as the movie communicated so well, when Evey was in the prison---there's always an inch of
you that they can never get. A part of you never dies, no matter what they do. Here's to that
inch inside every one of us that will never give up and never die--no matter what.

I hope everyone sees "V".

Anyone else care to share their thoughts?

1. Gotta stop thinking of that NBC miniseries from 1983...
Donovan, Martin, Barbara, and Diana - oh my!

2. loved it and similarly raved on the list after seeing it...
Also loved the whole "it was just an inch" sequence, too. As well as the line: "I had three years of roses, and apologize to no one."

6. I loved the whole story about Valerie...
...that was so moving and so amazing.

When you first see Valerie, you don't know who she is. However, she is on screen when the woman doctor is saying that the prisoners were lifeless and unresponsive, "They don't even look at you." The doctor talked about how she grew to detest the prisoners because they were so passive. Later on, when you realize that Valerie was one of those lifeless, empty prisoners--you understand why. You know how her life was juxtaposed against her current hell. It was just so moving and so tragic.

I liked how the movie used a lesbian to put a human face on the tragedy--because there is so much right-wing hate out there for homosexuals. There was a parallel to the Nazis. The Nazis spent a great deal of time demonizing the Jews, just as the current administration demonizes homosexuals. It reminded me of the...."They came for the Jews and I said nothing...they came for the homosexuals and I said nothing..." quote. Sadistic leaders who will come for any specific group--will eventually come for anyone who speaks out.

8. I confess -- I wound up crying the first time I saw that sequence...
...tears rolling down my face, looking furtively around the screening room to see if anyone else was similarly affected...

4. Wasn't the leader the same actor who starred in 1984?
That was kinda creepy. I noticed they used lighting on his face that made him look grubby, with yellowed teeth. I guess that was an example of the famous Nixon lighting at its worst.

I really want to make a Guy Fawkes' mask.

7. I was wondering what would happen to someone who made...
A Guy Fawkes' mask.

Maybe we need some Guy Fawkes bumper stickers.

What we really need is that sea of people--converged on the White House.

10. Yeah, John Hurt
His pupils were as big as any tweaker's. That was a nice touch, too.

5. Loved it!!!
I sure do hope everyone on DU gets a chance to see this film.

It's a wake up call to America. It's about having the courage to let go of fear and reclaim precious freedom.

I can't wait to see the neocon reaction to this film. It should be interesting.

9. I loved it, but it's just a movie
A good movie, with many lessons, but I don't really think the US or Britain is close to that kind of state. In a few years Bush will be gone, Blair will pull British troops out of Iraq as his final act, and we'll have a new president. The country will go on, however damaged, but we will go on. You can count on that. Constantly evolving. The Great Melting Pot.

11. But it was originally conceived
when the Evil Hag Thatcher seemed to be taking the UK into that very state. The irony, of course, is that Bliar is attacking civil rights in a way that Thatcher never dared dream possible. Of course "New" Labour has absolutely no connection to the Socialism of "Real" Labour which, I fear, is gone from my country.

13. I recall the Milk Snatcher said New Labor was her "greatest legacy"
the Greeks were never a threat until the Trojans invited them in

12. Pre-orders of these masks are all sold out on many sites
The cheaper plastic ones can't be far behind. I predict we'll be able to buy as many as we like by Halloween.

15. Saw it last night. I laughed and cried and then I got scared
I swear it's like the Bush administration is using Alan Moore's story as a blueprint on how to take over our country - nazi-style!

GO SEE IT!!!

It is a great film.
