LOL, classic... and I was a self reliant kid, so to me this rings true. :)

How to spot a baby conservative

KID POLITICS | Whiny children, claims a new study, tend to grow up rigid and traditional. Future liberals, on the other hand ...

Remember the whiny, insecure kid in nursery school, the one who always thought everyone was out to get him, and was always running to the teacher with complaints? Chances are he grew up to be a conservative.

At least, he did if he was one of 95 kids from the Berkeley area that social scientists have been tracking for the last 20 years. The confident, resilient, self-reliant kids mostly grew up to be liberals.

1. My mother said I was an easy going kid when I was a baby
She said that when she would take me places I would sit still and be content.
My brother on the other hand was always a monster and cried for 2 straight years. Guess what, He is a republican.

2. I would argue it's an issue of authoritarianism vs. libertarianism

Block admits in his paper that liberal Berkeley is not representative of the whole country. But within his sample, he says, the results hold. He reasons that insecure kids look for the reassurance provided by tradition and authority, and find it in conservative politics. The more confident kids are eager to explore alternatives to the way things are, and find liberal politics more congenial.

This is an issue of methodology and philosophy towards getting what one wants. A person who is intolerant of change, not open to new ideas, and detests ambiguity would do something to satisfy his anger or want for order.

A stalinist state socialist hates change just as much as a fascist corporatist does because change and new ideas threaten the existing order from which they benefit. As a result, any and all threats must be identified and destroyed. It's the same characteristics found in any totalitarian government.

The exact opposite would be not fearing change, not fearing new ideas, and not fearing lack of control over people. Indeed, some embrace it and argue it is good.
