Bill Frist: Democrats are to blame for $8 Trillion debt
He sent this yesterday in an e-mail to supporters-

“The Democrat alternative to Republican efforts to restrain spending is clear: Continue to spend beyond our means, mortgaging our children’s future by saddling them with a debt of $8 trillion … and continue to ratchet up taxes to pay for their fiscal irresponsibility, stifling the American economy,” Frist wrote.

135. My brain hurts just reading that quote
Seriously, the thing to ask these people is the following:

Republicans own Congress since 1994

Republicans own the Senate, the Presidency and even the Judiciary since 2000

Democrats own nothing and amount to nothing.

When are Republicans are going to be f***ing responsible for anything?

WHEN????

Just one question though:
Did you take at least five minutes to make your diagnosis?

MORE EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES SYNDROME. I see NO humor in this at all. These people (Bush, Norquist, Frist, Rove, Cheney) say "black is white" and "white is black" with apparent impunity (except for the occasional Feingold). The whore media then spreads/saturates this shit around just like manure and then the sheeple swallow the lies whole. And where are Pelosi, Dean, Reid? They should take off the gloves, and just come out and call Frist a goddamn fucking liar, which he is. What we've spent on Iraq/Afghanistan alone under Republican leadership/domination of both houses is and will continue to be enough to bankrupt this country. And they aren't done.

The first is that I don't know who the "Democrat Party" is. I'm a member of the Democratic Party; does this mean that Frist is a member of the Republic Party? My second question is how the hell were Democrats able to achieve this miracle, with Frist's party controlling both houses of Congress, and the Presidency?

They whine and pout even when they're in the majority. It's absolutely pathetic. I'd be too ashamed to be a member of the "Republic Party."

50. Origin of "Democrat" as an adjective
This usage predated Gingrich. On Wikipedia, we had a discussion about correct terminology. One contributor wrote, "'DEMOCRAT PARTY' was introduced by Republicans about 1952 to needle Democrats. Democrats really hate the term so the GOP uses it every chance it can. Independents and scholars never use it." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Democratic_Party_%28United_States%29#Name_choice

I can't personally vouch for dating it back to 1952 but I do remember hearing it before Gingrich. It's not just "Democrat Party", but "Democrat ideas", "Democrat candidates", etc.

31. That he can even do that speaks volumes on the American people.
There are people eating this shit up. Where else can a large fraction of Americans get the facts? Many don't care, or have good bullshit detectors like us. Some have their own agendas. Some are just going along in order to validate spouses or parents. Lots of excuses. But sadly, Frist, not unlike the Nazi propaganda producers, knows that when a public speaker utters anything, it becomes a sort of truth all on it's own, and requires much in order to right it.

YUCK. They really do want a fight. They're inevitably going to end up with a very big mess on their hands. Then it will be very obvious whose mess it really is.

It speaks volumes on how stupid they think the America people are.

To even try this, means that the Republican Party believes the American people are dumber than dirt.

Just a minor correction, because this really does show their utter contempt for the American people.

159. I don't know.
I hang out in a British forum, and the consensus is, Americans are dumb. And from what I have witnessed in their forum, they are a magnitude ahead of us. Their young know science, art history, history, politics. Our kids know Grand Theft Auto Playstation moves.

Yesterday I was talking with a friend who owns an engineering company just north of San Francisco. He cannot find help. There is no one qualified to weld or machine. And it's no surprise since I can't even go back to my trade school in Silicon Valley, because it was auctioned off in the 80's. We don't value knowledge here. We value comfort.

I'm not disagreeing with what you said. It may sound that way. I'm just of the impression that we are at least half a nation of idiots. Not here at DU. Not my sister's son. But she lives in Los Altos. The average house price is something like $2 million. They have schools. They have brainy people all over the place there. But average America?

I honestly think that the next phase is where Chinese costs rise, and manufacturing returns to America. But not in a good way.

I'm blabbing. Time to get some work done. I hope I'm wrong. I have nothing to gain by being right here.

---- Bush Borrowed More Than All Previous Presidents Combined, Group Says

(CNSNews.com) - President Bush and the current administration have borrowed more money from foreign governments and banks than the previous 42 presidents combined, a group of conservative to moderate Democrats said Friday.

***

According to the Treasury Department, from 1776-2000, the first 224 years of U.S. history, 42 U.S. presidents borrowed a combined $1.01 trillion from foreign governments and financial institutions, but in the past four years alone, the Bush administration borrowed $1.05 trillion. ----

For some reason, despite the BRAZILLION jaw dropping moments of this administration...this one caught me off guard as the most bizarre of them all.

My T-shirt that I have on under my dress jacket at work today says (seriously) -

"I did it, but I am blaming YOU" with a picture of a cute little bunny on it giggling. Sounds about right for these unhinged, utter aberrant mental defectives of which Frist is included.

Sad thing is, if no one counters it from our own spineless (at times) party, it WILL end up the Dems fault via default, as SO many things have before.

105. Corollary: "They accomplished it but we're taking credit."
These are people who'd mug a widow then take credit for her recovery in the hospital. They complain that the media isn't reporting the "good news" in Iraq, but journalists are being killed in Iraq, many by U.S. forces (hotel bombardment anyone?), at rates not seen before. Journalists can't leave the Green Zone unaccompanied by armed and armored bodyguards. Rumsfeld can't go to Iraq except in secret. Entire families are given the death penalty due solely to 'suspicion' - of someone in the neighborhood.

But we're assured that the "democratization" of Iraq is the goal du jour. If the Iraqis somehow recover from the invasion and occupation, the Bushoilinis will take credit - all of it. If they don't, the Bushoilinis will blame the Iraqis, the Iranians, and the Democrats - enough to go around.

At least when they were lying to us about Iraq, they could obfuscate the truth for a little while, but this is... Wow. Blatant!

I've said it many times. I do not mind my government lying to me. It's what they do. It's why we elect them, because they tell us pretty lies. It's all we expect from them. However, I take great offense at being lied to poorly. I pay these people my money so they can come up with deep, convincing, conspiritorial lies, not so they can do this shit.

Was there any verbiage before or after the given quote where he might give some hint as to the basis for this statement? As everyone has pointed out, it seems ridiculous on its face inasmuch as all national spending decisions for many years have been made by Republicans.

I wonder whether elsewhere in the letter he mentions any accomplishments of the current Congress. If so, I suspect he gives the Republicans credit for those.

The jaw-dropping ignorance of this remark astounds me. :wtf: There are two possibilities here: either Frist actually believes this or he's lying out of his ass. Either one should disqualify him from holding office, ANY office! :wow:

bush and his slimy sycophants in Congress keep lowering taxes, running up the national debt, insist on continuing a war without end spending upward of $300 million a day to support it, give REBATES to oil companies that are gouging the hell out of us and enjoying record profits every quarter, repeal every environmental law on the books to please their corporate masters, cut social programs to the bare bone, control EVERY branch of government...........and this is somehow the Democrat's fault?

Frist is as fucking crazy as a shit-house rat! His fundy brain is officially fried. Reality is no longer a part of Frist's daily regimen. Who listens to and believes shit like this? What the fuck is wrong with people? I can't believe this, I CANNOT fucking believe this! :silly:

The latest news item I could find is a March 10 article from http://www.commercialappeal.com/mca/midsouth_news/article/0,1426,MCA_1497_4529420,00.html

"The Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating his sale of stock in the for-profit hospital company his father founded. Frist's decision to sell off stock in Columbia/HCA came suspiciously close to the time the stock price dropped."

(snip)

"An SEC spokesman noted that the commission has never acknowledged an investigation is under way, although Frist's office has said it has been cooperating with its requests for documents."

136. One would think so but with all the
damage this crew is doing, e.g., the war, the economy, the environment, civil liberties, to name just a few and the massive corruption, i.e. America for sale, it is hard to keep their feet to the fire on all fronts. Hopefully, during the Repug primaries, their dirty tricks crews will destroy one another.

122. it is the Dems' fault
The Dems didn't fight to stop the Republicans. Dems didn't hang together so we'll all hang separately. It's the Dems' fault for letting us get bullied by "national security" issues when the Republicans are not securing our nation.

It's also Clinton's fault for getting a blow job, which helped put Bush in office.

It's also Carter's fault for only using only 9 helicopters in Desert One (Iran hostage crisis) instead of 18, which put Reagan in office.

And it's FDR's fault for not passing universal health insurance and pension reform as part of the new deal.

131. Here's how they're going to make that claim stick with the freetards
and keep cognitive dissonance alive.

I've read on FR, several times about RINOS, and their fear and loathing for them. The key to keeping the freepers in line lies with the idea that they believe that the Dems, coupled with the RINOs actually control the House and Senate. That's their "official" delusion. Of course, this doesn't explain why "dear leader" can't just veto this HORRIBLE "democrat" spending. Neither does it explain Bush would have any fear in vetoing, if the puke Congress is so "dedicated" to lowering spending -- surely the handful of RINOS and Dems can't get a 2/3 majority, in a Republican House/Senate "so dedicated" to bringing down the debt and the deficit.

They're just fucking liars, and their constituency is a bunch of zombies.

The second part is that a LARGE part of their party ARE willing to trade smaller government and a smaller welfare state to win the culture war. I was just reading a rationalization of this, the other day, on FR, by a socialist-christo-fascist (in my opinion, far more dangerous than real conservtives). You'll hear no complaints on spending to increase the power of the Fed, attack the brown heathens, and fund Christian programs for everyone.

This is how the GOP can get away with saying such outrageous things.

137. I hate to say this, but Frist is right
in a republican kind of way. American economy is stagnant, exports are dwindling, and energy costs are soaring - with or without Iraq -, costs of medical care booming.

The rebuplican solution apparantly was to hijack public sentiment to support a war against two sovereign nations, seize political and millitary control of their oil fields, and hope for a miracle.

In not supporting this, in his view, democrats are actually harming the economy on the long run.

175. here's a good article with a graph...
http://www.cedarcomm.com/~stevelm1/usdebt.htm

Since 1938 the Democrats have held the White house for 35 years, the Republicans for 33. Over that time the national debt has increased at an average annual rate of 8.7%. The Democratic yearly average (that is the years Democrats were in the White House) was an increase of 8.3%. The years while the Republicans ran the White House, during this same period; the debt increased an average 9.3% per year. Those averages are pretty close.

If you look at the debt starting with Truman’s term (and remove Roosevelt’s WWII debt) the difference between the two parties contributions to our national debt level change considerably. Since 1946 the Democratic Presidents increased the national debt an average of only 3.7% per year when they were in office. The Republican Presidents stay at an average increase of 9.3% per year. Over the last 59 years Republican Presidents have out borrowed Democratic Presidents by almost a three to one ratio. That is, for every dollar a Democratic President has raised the national debt in the past 59 years Republican Presidents have raised the debt by $2.87.

189. Actually it's Clinton's fault, pure and simple
First off, when in doubt blame Clinton. For everything.

Second, the Clinton era saw budget surpluses. He did that on purpose, just to make Republicans look bad. Shame on him!

Finally, Clinton's tax policy didn't favor the super rich. If he had only been kind enough to pad their pockets like Bush43 has, the he (Clinton) too would have had runaway deficits, just like Reagan-Bush41 before him. But he didn't, and frugal conservatives are now made to look bad. If not for Clinton's deliberate fiscal policies, today's Republicans would not have so much explaining to do.
