RFID - sign up for your implant now
abc.net.au

With a wave of his hand, Amal Graafstra, a 29-year-old entrepreneur based in Vancouver, Canada, opens his front door. With another, he logs onto his computer.

Tiny radio frequency identification (RFID) computer chips inserted into Mr Graafstra's hands make it all possible.

"I just don't want to be without access to the things that I need to get access to. In the worst case scenario, if I'm in the alley naked, I want to still be able to get in (my house)," Mr Graafstra said in an interview in New York, where he is promoting the technology.

These people sound like the kind who get processed into fertilizer by the government they thought was their friend in bad sci-fi novels, but then that kind of scenario doesn't seem beyond the realm of possibility in the "real" world (as packaged, branded(tm) and marketed by the GOP) these days. However, it probably won't be just an option for disposable technonerds, the rest of us may be expected to cooperate for the sake of security, conformity or plain old ease of control by the Usual Suspects(R). Beware.

1. Not a chance in hell will I have one.
They can market it any way they please, I'm afraid I must pass. I just won't be in the alley naked, and always try to remember my keys.

4. My in-laws are the "born-again xtian" Bush backers,
and even they think the personal RFID is equal to the mark of the beast.

5. Yep
They think it's a way for the 666 mark to come through. I remember seeing a movie that was religious where this guy was trying to get a national ID and it'd be like that and they tied it through with the 666 thing.

2. Why would he be naked in the alley???
He must have an odd lifestyle if that is a priority possibility....

Why not put it in a ring, an earring, or a bracelet? Why stick it under the skin? Tech for tech's sake???

6. The ring is a great suggestion, IIRC they have that now
The application is "non-working" police guns. Apparently, the officer wears a ring with an RFID chip in it. The handle of his service weapon has an RFID reader in it. If it doesn't see the RFID chip it's set to look for, the gun won't fire.
