Opinion - Too Late for More Troops...

Regardless of the question of whether or not we should have invaded Iraq, it is clear that we fucked things up from the beginning.

We went into Iraq with a force far too small to ensure security and maintain infrastructure.

We lost the hearts & minds of too many Iraqi's the moment they saw that America was after its own public victory -- while no American forces were simultaneously dispatched to protect the interests of the Iraqi population.

Any fool can burn down a bad house. It takes real work, resources, compassion & vision to burn down a house without killing the slaves to the structure. We failed miserably here.

There was a window of opportunity where more troops would have meant more security for Iraqis. This window has closed. We are now largely seen as occupiers.

Now -- more troops would be perceived as more occupation. We missed the window when more troops would have been a good thing.

1. We may have had a brief chance to gain the upper hand
but I think the momentum has has swung out of control and we have lost our grip. The Iraqis are so mad now that I don't think they care who they kill. They are on a rampage. And I fully believe these are not outside infiltrators but the homeboys gone savage over the outrage of having their country bombed flat and then invaded. The only Iraqis that have any praise for the invasion have their hand in someone's pocket. You can pay some people enough to make them be on your side. Maybe Bush could give Iraq's leaders the idea to give a big tax rebate to buy influence like he did here. $500.00 an Iraqi so they will like us. Might be cheaper than what we have been doing. Never mind I don't think we can even pay them enough to accept military occupation.

2. I wish it was this simple, but the fact is that...

...the Sunni's were cast into oblivion temporarily, & now comprise the essence of the insurgency.
