DU Meetups (including info about the Houston group)

We used to have our Houston DU events through Meetup.com before they started charging for it. Now, we generally just post in the Texas forum anytime a group of us are getting together. We started out having a happy hour or lunch meeting, but there is usually something interesting going on around town, and we usually have an "after party" afterwards, so that has come to replace the "official" meetups.

The reason I am posting this here is that I occasionally get notices from Meetup.com telling me that someone has registered their interest in joining a Houston DU meetup. I have gotten several of these notices lately. I don't want these folks to think we do NOT meet up, and I don't know if they ever check the state forums.

I thought folks in other states might have the same issue, so I wanted to post a general invitation to all members old and new, to go to your state forum ( http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=136 )and if there are no groups meeting near you, start one!

And in particular, to anyone in the Houston area, we have a GREAT active group who meets frequently at local events, so just let us know if you can join us, and we'll be sure to find you at an event! Other Texas groups meet up often too, like the Austin and dallas area groups.

How was your trip? I went down in January, in February, and will go back in 2 weeks...overdoing it?

I didn't end up going to Cozumel. It was just too close to the hurricane, and I decided since I have limited funds and limited time off, I wanted to save it for a time when the reefs would be clean and the businesses all back to normal. My friends are going back next month, and again in December. I think I may try to meet them in December.

How has Isla Mujeres been since the hurricane? I saw pictures, and it looked muhc better than I had expected!

And, after having so much of the beach disappear, it has come back wider and whiter than before....can't wait to get back down there! Take care, chica.
