The Hill: "‘Law & Order’ versus the GOP"
NBC’s “Law & Order” franchise sure likes to needle the GOP.

On Sunday, “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” gave its famous “ripped from the headlines” treatment to the Jack Abramoff scandal.....the parallels seem all too clear: a murder of a Secret Service agent in her home had detectives snooping around the clients of her husband, “a well-connected lobbyist who is working both for and against an unpopular tribal Indian gaming casino.”
....
The show aired only two days after Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.) tussled with Richard Belzer, the actor who plays Detective John Munch on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”

On HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” Ros-Lehtinen said that servicemen she’s met in Iraq tell her: “We’re proud of our mission. We know what we’re doing over here. We don’t want you guys in Washington to lose it over there.”

Belzer, a noted conspiracy theorist, questioned the troops’ credibility on the matter, saying, “You think everyone over there is a college graduate? They’re 19- and 20-year-old kids who couldn’t get a job. … They don’t read 20 newspapers a day.”

Funny, I would have said corruption was the target. Guess The Hill is having trouble separating the two also ;)

Lumping Belzer's own comments in with what the show is doing is low. His personal remarks don't support the premise of the article.

(There's a good quote in there by the producer after DeLay got hopping mad at the show earlier in the season)

1. I sort of agree.
They even hired Fred Thompson to prove that republicans are bad actors.

2. HA! Last night's L&W slammed the GOP too!
Agruing against the illegal war last night! And Boston Legal has been doing a terrific job arguing against the current admin.

I hope the GOP just keep whining against Hollywood and "stay's their course" because it's shows like these that have the power to move public opinion! If they're too stupid to realize that, TS!

3. I thought Richard Belzer slapped her but good!! And where do they
get off calling him a "noted conspiracy theorist???" I never knew that was his claim to fame! I always thought his claim to fame was his marvellous portrayals as DECTECTIVE JOHN MUNCH!

7. And they took his comment completely out of context.
He was defending the inability of soldiers to question their orders or debate their mission. He was also pointing out that the military civilian leadership purposely keeps them in the dark regarding strategy.

Of course, I expect nothing less of "The Hill".

5. Last night, the Mother Ship also slammed Bushco
It showed corruption in the contractors who are paid exorbitant fees to do work that soldiers used to do-and have no one checking over them to see that they follow laws. It talked about the appalling lack of affordible health care which is bankrupting Americans. It talked about illegalities taking place and how those who are still trying to play by the rules are often stymied. Fred Dalton Thompson, the repuke ex-Senator and ardent Bush supporter nearly choked on some of the lines he had to say.

What's really funny is that on the L&O fan boards, the rwingers are easy to spot: to a person they are saying they hated the episode, they're tired of having programs about Iraq. Everyone else (and liberals outnumber rwingers on the boards I frequent) think it was a great ep.
