Radio Host fired for using a slur against Condi Rice.
I must say, I agree with them, that he was completely out of line.

ST. LOUIS, Missouri (AP) -- A St. Louis radio station quickly fired a talk show host for uttering a racial epithet as he talked about Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on his morning show Wednesday.

Dave Lenihan apologized on the air immediately after making what he said was a slip of the tongue. KTRS president and general manager Tim Dorsey agreed the remark was accidental but said it was nonetheless "unacceptable, reprehensible and unforgivable."

Lenihan had been heaping praise on Rice, who has frequently said she aspires to run the NFL one day but has more recently ruled out seeking to replace retiring Commissioner Paul Tagliabue.

"She's been chancellor of Stanford," Lenihan said on the air. "She's got the patent resume of somebody that has serious skill. She loves football. She's African-American, which would kind of be a big coon. A big coon. Oh my God. I am totally, totally, totally, totally, totally sorry for that."

He said he had meant to say "coup" instead of the racial slur.

1. Yeah, there's no place for that.
Even if it was a mistake, latent racism isn't acceptable either.

5. Sports Radio Can Be Very Racist
There's a local station in Chicago which prides itself on having an "attitude". The concept is that you're either sitting at a bar or in the locker room with a bunch of guys and this gives you license to act like a 15 year old ass. While the slurs aren't overt, they're never too far from the surface. Everyone is broken down into their ethnicity or sex or some other stereotype...all for a bunch of juvenille yucks.

9. Jim Rome talks about race intelligently
At least that's what I remember back when I listened to him on the radio. He was one of the only "popular media" figures I remember that talked about race in America openly and honestly without slipping into any sort of juvenile, racist talk. I imagine he has had a positive influence on the thinking of some of his listeners.

7. Heard him on the radio this morning. New guy. Sounded like an
honest mistake, actually (he was going for 'coup in the NFL' he says).

Did you hear that radio lady who said it was amazing that some dude climbed some major mountain because 'he's gay. I mean, blind.' Now THAT's a weird one, but SHE's not in trouble.
