If a small group can get a movie or tv show pulled
then wouldn't it make sense that an even larger group could get it put back? If your local theater pulled Brokeback Mountain or a TV station won't run Daniel, then flood them with the same level of emails and threats to boycott. Those who don't want to watch can simply turn it off, but if it's pulled, it's censorship...and that makes the theater or tv station anti-free speech and therefore un-American. In other words point out how showing the film is the right way to go.

Ok, that's not as articulate as I would like, but it's after midnight.

1. Just posted this on a similar thread ...
... this kind of crapola is getting totally out of hand.

My advice (and it's just MHO) to the locals is to go elsewhere to see not only THIS MOVIE, but EVERY movie for the next six months. And don't forget to send the powers-that-be at this theatre an email, letter, fax or phone call EVERY TIME you take your business elsewhere, reminding them that you're doing so and WHY.

The Fundies are being herded like sheep (and they can't help it, they're too stupid to realize it) by political organizations disguised as 'Christian activist groups' who are delivering them up as 'consumers' to all and sundry.

It's time to let the cave-ins (this theatre, the NBC affiliates who are refusing to air 'Book of Daniel', et cetera) know that we who believe in freedom of speech and freedom of expression are a MUCH LARGER CONSUMER GROUP than the so-called 'Christian right' - and we've got the DOLLARS to prove it.

Locals here might also start a little activist group in town: call local merchants in the area of the theatre, and ask them if they support the theatre's decision to pull the movie. When they ask why -- which they inevitably will -- tell them that while you're boycotting the theatre, you figured you may as well boycott the stores that are in agreement with the theatre's views.

There are way more of US than there are THEM out there -- let's tell the people who want our MONEY that we're in charge here!

P.S. You're INCREDIBLY coherent for post-midnight. It's 3:25 here in Toronto, and I stopped making sense a good six hours ago!

4. Okay, you've been talking to my mother, right?
Okay, okay, okay, okay ... I'm going to bed right now. No, I mean it, I really am. There's no school tomorrow, you know that, right?

Okay, okay, okay ...

2. It only takes a few voices
Our local station pulled a Ted Koppel segment on Evangelical Big Box churches. Just a few fundy nutjobs got it pulled. But an overwhelming amount of LTTEs and station calls got a written newspaper explanation from the station manager, and they rescheduled it.

As they say, there are more of US than there are of THEM.

5. I'm already working on that
I'm notifying NBC that if they pull "Book of Daniel" based on anything other than ratings then I will not be watching their network, period. I'll do the same if the local theater refuses to show "Brokeback Mountain" because of fundie protests. I'm tired of networks and businesses pandering to the loud-mouthed minority that insists on dictating what the entire nation will see, hear, buy, etc.

6. and the other side of that is to praise, and support, the theatres, shops,
businesses, etc. that are doing the right thing. I make a point of this, too (right after I vent my spleen at dobson and company for their rank stupidity and arrogance)

7. Yes indeed
I posted a message on NBCs "The Book of Daniel" message board praising them for having the show, and encouraged them to keep it on as long as ratings allowed regardless of what the narrow-minded ones said.
