I swear Bush said "jobs that 'some Americans' won't do".
Watching a segment of Bush's press conference from Tuesday I noted that Bush said 'some Americans', a phrase that screams entitlement and aristocracy. When I check the Whitehouse transcripts it says "jobs that Americans won't do." I'm sure he said 'some Americans' which is code for 'poor'. Anybody know where there is video of this March 21st press conference? I just need to check to see if that was what Bush actually said. The comment was made toward the end. I was shocked to hear him say 'some Americans'. I mean it was so obvious who he was talking about. If he actually said 'some Americans' it is just another indication that Bush sees the American public as chattel, if the Whitehouse edited the transcript to omit the word 'some' then they are covering Bush's tracks.

1. That's the prevailing fiction from cheap labor conservatives

that there are jobs "beneath" American citizens.

Well, the only thing "beneath" is a paycheck beneath the amount that is needed to keep body and soul together for a person who intends to spend his life in this country instead of going home to a country where dollars will change into enough pesos to start a small business.

Cheap labor conservatives are the ones fueling illegal immigration. Most employers would much rather have workers whose language and culture they understand.

They just don't want to PAY THEM.

2. Americans walk into dark holes in the Earth and work

miles under ground every day to mine coal and far too many of them don't come back out. They do it because they can support their family with a living wage.

Most of the "guest workers" go into hospitality, agriculture or construction.

The Hilton will have clean sheets regardless of how much they pay the maids.

We can afford to pay five cents more a can for green beans.

You will replace your hail damaged roof even if it means paying a living wage.

There------are------no-------jobs------that------Americans-------won't----------do.

3. So they lower the wages until the only ones who will do it are illegals
and then say no american will do it. How manipulative. Do you think that theres a conspiracy here? No doubt IMO. Hell, Id be willing to pay a little more for my brocolli if I knew it was picked by people who dont undercut wages.

4. He used both versions..
He said "Americans won't do", at one point, and towards the end, he said "some Americans won't do". I don't know about where to get the video, but I watched the chimp live, and I remember what he said.

I personally did not hear the jobs SOME Americans won't do.

I was incensed that He changed the rhetoric to jobs Americans "dont WANT to do" to jobs Americans "WON'T" do. As if a starving, once-gainfully-employed laid off can't find a job because of outsourcing and insourcing middle-class American wouldn't possibly stoop to the level of digging trenches, pulling onions, or flipping burgers.

It's all a clever ploy designed to benefit the corporations with cheap labor where they don't have to worry about benefits and worker treatment. A poor illegal immigrant worker who is thankful to work in the U.S. won't ask for benefits, fair treatment, or fair pay. In other words, slave labor is ALIVE and WELL in the United States.
