CNN: Delay Steps Down!
Edited on Sat Jan-07-06 12:58 PM by Spazito
Will post link asap.

Ed Henry saying there may well be others who will have to step aside as well. roflmao, delicious, simply delicious!

Great fear from republicans that the dem 'line' about a culture of corruption will stick, love it!

Edited to add: Still NO headline from CNN, hmmm, anyone wannat take bets that they don't see this as GOOD news, lol?

Edited to add: Still only a header, no article on CNN home page on this:

"Embattled U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay will not attempt to regain his post as House majority leader, DeLay spokesman says."

Finally, it is on home page, took long enough!:

Sources: DeLay to quit Republican leadership post

3. Ahh...just logged in, such sweet news.....
I might be dealing with the muck and sludge at my house right now from the flood a week ago, but maybe its symbolic that we are throwing it all out....Looks like some house cleaning is being done across the board! :bounce:

23. Thx Spazito! It is great news and I think we are going to see more of it
in 2006! My family and I might be "refugees" right now sleeping in the living rooms and guest rooms of friends and neighbors, but I actually think that 2006 is going to be the turning point. Remember, the flood and destruction actually happened to us a week ago on December 31st 2005, not in 2006. Now is the cleanup...2006 is cleanup time...starting with Tom Delay is a good start....what a slimy piece of crap that crook of man is...He's going to just be the warmup for things to come....

50. In 1998, Pachapapa & I had a fire and lost everything...I also learned
then, that the material things don't matter and that like the Phoenix rising from the ashes, better things come and "rebirth". Yesterday, as I was spraying off the muck and sludge from my childrens bikes and found in the shed a box of bulbs sprouting...hey, they had been nicely watered and "fertilized" and looked really happy. Right now, as we do cleanup and I deal with this sludge that even can't be "flung" off my rubber gloves, I realize that its an inconvenience and everything is going to be fine. I do believe in symbolism...I believe the flood was to wash away things and have a new beginning....

:hi:

I think he THOUGHT he might be able to come back..

poor deluded idiot.. WE all knew he was gone for good..

The question is whether he knows that he's lost his seat as well. He shouldn't even run. I'm sure there is "family" he needs to "spend more time with"..

Officials: DeLay to give up majority leader post

edit to add: His about-face came amid growing pressure from fellow Republicans (emphasis added) who were concerned about their own political futures in the wake of this week’s guilty pleas by lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

21. Uh, not to be a party pooper or anything, but......
...I thought he already "stepped down" when he was indicted?

Now if he's resigning entirely, that's worth a celebration.

The story didn't get that wide of a circulation yesterday, but a couple of House Republicans had called for elections to replace the Bug.

Hell, if Republicans start using their brains enough to realize what these criminal bastards are doing to their own party we might actually see Chimpeachment after all. And then we can really celebrate.

22. Fox News and MSNBC already have it on their sites, CNN does not
It's 12:32pm Saturday, and at this time:

CNN reporting that Ariel Sharon is in "grave condition" following his stroke; no news on the DeLay situation.
Fox News has a bar near the top of the page: "Breaking News: DeLay to resign his House leadership post."
MSNBC also has a "breaking news" bar on DeLay.

I'd be happier if DeLay was resigning from Congress, but this is still great news.

I boycott them, but I couldn't resist flipping by quickly at about 9:33 west coast time. A shaky voiced female announcer was reading the "facts", sounding as if she would burst into tears at any moment. Has there been any commentary?

53. DeLay's letter to Hastert, lol, still lying his head off!
Text of Letter From Rep. Tom DeLay

Text of a letter Saturday from Rep. Tom DeLay, R-Texas, to fellow House Republicans about his decision not to seek to return to his post as majority leader:

Dear Colleague:

Today, I have asked Speaker Hastert to convene our conference for the purpose of electing a new majority leader, the position I have been honored to fill these past three years through the trust and confidence of our colleagues.

During my time in Congress, I have always acted in an ethical manner within the rules of our body and the laws of our land. I am fully confident time will bear this out.

However, we live in serious times and the United States House of Representatives must be focused on the job of protecting our nation and meeting the daily challenges facing the American people. History has proven that when House Republicans are united and focused, success follows.
