Hil has a holy cow over immigrant bill (real headline)
Sen. Hillary Clinton used the Bible yesterday to belt Republicans who back a tough new immigration bill she said was not only un-American, but un-Christian as well. "It is certainly not in keeping with my understanding of the Scriptures," Clinton said. "This bill would literally criminalize the Good Samaritan - and probably even Jesus himself."

The House bill, which comes before the Senate next week, is causing a huge political ruckus and spreading panic in immigrant communities. More than 100,000 people recently marched against it in Chicago.

Sponsored by Rep. James Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin and New York's Rep. Pete King, the sweeping border security bill includes a measure that would turn the nation's 12 million undocumented aliens into instant felons, along with anyone who employs them or otherwise assists them. Those found guilty of being or helping an illegal alien could face five years in prison.

The Catholic Church says the measure would make a priest who counsels an illegal alien into a criminal. Clinton and a fellow New York Democrat, Rep. Jose Serrano, said the two of them would probably be considered felons under the law.

Who knew Hil was a political theologian? :bounce:

8. I knew. She's actually been talking about her faith for years.
It's BS to suggest that Mrs Clinton just suddenly "discovered" religion. She's been talking about the moral obligation imposed on her by her Methodist faith for many many years. I remember he talking about it during the '93 health care reform attempt. It came up again during the Lewinsky scandal. Pundits who say it's a new thing for her are either lying, parroting liars, or just didn't do their homework. I say this as someone who isn't too wild about Mrs Clinton as a presidential candidate. There's a lot of things she does I don't like. Faking religious values is NOT among her faults.

10. I hope the Dems don't speak up on this one too much or too
loudly. The best statement would be "it is such a complex and difficult issue we believe that it is going to take more than rhetoric to get a real, fair immigration policy." The Repugs are going to rip each other apart over this one and I hope the Dems get out of the way.

The truth is that it is such a complex, difficult issue that it is going to take more than rhetoric to get a real, fair immigration policy. Why do the Dems need to jump into the middle? Let's slow it all down and not give any knee jerk responses that will hurt instead of harm the debate.

13. I would prefer leadership
If I wanted mealy-mouthed, say nothing corporate alternatives to the neo cons... Oh, that is what we have.

I think that the Democratic party can thoughtfully address the immigration issue better then the GOP. I want leadership from the Democrats.

15. I'm sure the Dems can address the immigration issue more
wisely than the pugs but, the minute they open their mouth the right wing, nut job, spin machine will go into action. I hope they just sit back and let the pugs self-destruct on this one!!

14. Why doesn't she get behind the 9-11 truth movement?
Edited on Sat Mar-25-06 10:23 AM by RBHam
50 percent of New Yorkers, according to a Zogby Poll In August '04, believe the Governemnt is covering up the truth...the firefighters and emergency personnel who reported bombs in the building have been gagged...

You should listen to your constituents. Ms. Rodham.
