October 22, 2005—Michael Marcavage, the director of the evangelical Christian organization Repent America, was the subject of Philadelphia City Paper’s February 3, 2005, cover story. What he said during the interview defined theofascism: “Homosexuals are to be put to death. The wages of sin is death. But I want to make it clear that I’m not advocating the independent killing of homosexuals . . . I’m saying that the Government’s duty is to uphold God’s law.”

Marcavage was among the first to claim hurricane Katrina was “Godﾒs wrath” against homosexuals. Aside from Mardi Gras, Marcavage was certain a pissed-off “God” had targeted New Orleans because it was scheduled to host a gay event over Labor Day weekend. But what of the men, women and children killed and injured or left homeless and hopeless by Katrina?

Confrontational evangelism and why evangelists HATE tolerance

Confrontational evangelism is the evangelism of choice in conservative churches today because it offers an outlet through which members can use their energy, passion and talents not to minister to individual souls (who may or may not be receptive or grateful), but to work with others in order to make a tangible difference in the way all Americans behave. The assumption-and it's a big one-is this: If you change the behavior, the souls will follow. If you forcibly alter American culture, it will become more Christian. If you change the laws, it will lead to a change of heart for millions of Americans.

Conservative churches have all but ditched the old-fashioned non-confrontational "tolerant" evangelism, which carries the risk of ridicule or social rejection, and may not yield fruit for a very long time.

With the aid of elaborate marketing campaigns, they now have the option of spreading their "faith" (the euphemistic word for a particular denomination's beliefs, prohibitions or rules) in ways that won't make them look silly like we did out on those street corners, but will make them feel powerful, godly, triumphant and right.

So who's a sinner and who's not? If everybody took aggressive political action against those we consider sinners, we'd see utter chaos on the streets, the schools, the churches and the courts. Because there will always be a bigger fish-and a more righteous Christian-nobody, and I mean nobody, would be safe. Not even Southern Baptist ladies.

He's on from 6AM to 9AM PST time, and I listen to his show on the net every Sunday. He's the best I've ever heard at winning arguments with the extremists. He uses common sense, which is a rarity these days, almost anywhere!

He knows the Bible very well, and every argument I've ever heard him make on the radio, the caller either ends up saying well, I never thought about it like that, or hangs up because they aren't winning!

What an ugly soul, and he calls himself the follower of a being who demanded love, righteousness, generosity and self imposed poverty. I think evangelicals like this man have forgotten their roots...many of their predicessors accepted women and racial minorities with open arms when the rest of society was imprisoning them without bars.

And as for changing America into a Christian theocracy, there are two groups who are enemies to real freedom: the theocratizers and the apathetic people who could care less about what they are doing. The two groups together form a frighteningly large swath of America's population.

Makes no sense at all.

Christ said not to look at the speck in your brother's eye when you have a log in your own. I'm betting he has some "issues" in his past. What do YOU think?
