No car ads on AAR?
I am saving money as fast as I can to buy a new car. My old car is SO old, and SO ugly, and SO embarrassing, and I am SO sick of it. A few more months, and I think I'll have enough for the car I want WITHOUT having to go into debt for it. I have narrowed the list to a Toyota Corolla or Matrix or a Saturn Ion. The options I insist on are AC, electric sun roof, cruise control, remote keyless entry, power windows/door locks and XM satellite radio (so I can listen to Air America Radio, of course).

I have not, however, eliminated other makes and models from consideration. Honda Civic, Nissan Sentra, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge, whatever ... you name it, there's still a chance I might end up buying it. And a BIG plus for ANY automaker/dealer would be if I heard their ads on Air America Radio. ANYBODY who advertises on AAR, when it comes time for me to buy something, if they make it and advertise it on AAR, I'm more likely to buy it from them.

And why is it, I keep wondering, that I NEVER have heard a car advertisement on AAR? Maybe some local dealers advertise on local AAR stations somewhere, but there isn't an AAR station where I live, I don't think there's one even anywhere in my whole state, and I have to listen on the Internet and satellite radio.

I am going to write a letter to all of the major automakers and tell them that the first one I hear advertising on AAR, I will buy one of THEIR cars. And I hope a lot of DUers will do the same, because one letter from me will be ignored, but if they get hundreds or thousands of such letters, it might make a difference. Mike Malloy said once recently on his radio show that AAR is not having any trouble at all getting lots of listeners, what they're having trouble with is getting ADVERTISERS. Because advertisers, he said, say they don't want to seem to be supporting something "controversial." (In which case they shouldn't advertise on ANY talk radio at all, because talk radio is controversial by definition.)

I love AAR, I'm just about to make a purchase of close to $20K, and I'm trying to figure out a way here to make it support AAR.

Ron

P.S. -- Oh, and I almost forgot to say, DUers, if y'all listen to any local AAR stations that DO run ads from local car dealers, I might consider coming to your state just to buy my new car from THAT dealer. So let me know.

Those bastards at HUMMER might take out an ad, and then you'd be stuck with a behemoth! Make sure you only send letters to automakers you intend to patronize!
