Impeachment Resolutions Sweep America!
I live in Massachusetts, which has one of the most open statutes of just about any state for allowing citizens to place articles on town meeting warrants or referendum questions on election ballots (see my earlier post in the Massachusetts forum).

If you are a fellow Masshole, it may be too late now to start an initiative to place a referendum question on your May ballot, but it may not be too late to insert a warrant article.

If it is, either think ahead to the September election OR the Fall special town meetings.

OR

Get support and bring this to your next town or ward committee meeting.

OR

Get support from your state committee members and bring to the next state party meeting - New Mexico state party passed a resolution to impeach, why not yours?

My dem town committee adopted a hybrid Rutland resolution (based on Thomas Jefferson's rule 603) / Conyers resolution (we're asking our rep to co-sponsor) & Feingold resolution (we're asking our two senators to co-sponsor) voted unanimously on 3/20, and will be listed on http://impeachpac.org shortly.

What's happening in your town?

5. Too True. Chimpy has a...what is it by now...33% approval rating, BUT
folks around here still think it's September 2001 and Little Lord Pissypants can still walk on water. A friend saw an anti-Chimpy something-or-other sitting around the house, went all spacey and said "Don't you like President Bush?" Total air of incredulity. Might as well have been "Buy a flower for Rev. Moon?" -- coz it's the same cult mentality. The idea that their Celestial Leader might NOT be the messiah could never even occur to them. Athens would probably vote for impeachment in a heartbeat. But just a few miles away in Watkinsville, it's still W stickers and faded yellow ribbon magnets.

Good old Georgia, indeed!

8. As a resident of Cherokee County, Georgia, I'm beginning to
feel as though I live in the epicenter of right wing naziland. I know, if I don't like it I can move.
We're working on that plan.

4. The New Mexico Democratic Party voted for impeachment
so it seems I did OK when I moved from Boston to New Mexico.

Anybody who thinks Stupid won this state in 2004 is seriously delusional or owns stock in ES&S.

9. This is what we need
Grassroots.

No media required.

No need to involve the politicians (until they're convinced that they won't lose the next election if they support impeachment).

Disobedience to tyrants AND pundits.

11. Sam Seder's Impeachment Forum will go down in history
as the first offical call for impeachment. At least it should, even though DU had a 3 year head start.

I think it was Michael Ratner who called for the people to rise up locally. It's happening now!

RESOLUTION OF THE XXXXXXX DEMOCRATIC TOWN COMMITTEE

WHEREAS, Jefferson's Manual section LIII, 603, states that impeachment may be set in motion by charges transmitted from the legislature of a State; and

WHEREAS, George W. Bush has intentionally misled the Congress and the public regarding the threat from Iraq in order to justify a war against Iraq, in violation of Title 18 United States Code, Section 1001 and intentionally conspired with others to defraud the United States in connection with the war against Iraq in violation of Title 18 United States Code, Section 371; and

WHEREAS, George W. Bush has admitted to ordering the National Security Agency to conduct electronic surveillance of American civilians without seeking warrants from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court of Review, duly constituted by Congress in 1978, in violation of Title 50 United States Code, Section 1805; and

WHEREAS, George W. Bush has conspired to commit the torture of prisoners in violation of the "Federal Torture Act" Title 18 United States Code, Section 113C, the UN Torture Convention and the Geneva
Convention, which under Article VI of the Constitution are part of the "supreme Law of the Land"; and

WHEREAS, George W. Bush has acted to strip American citizens of their constitutional rights by ordering indefinite detention without access to legal counsel, without charge and without the opportunity to
appear before a civil judicial officer to challenge the detention, based solely on the discretionary designation by the President of a U.S. citizen as an "enemy combatant", all in subversion of law; and

WHEREAS, In all of this George W. Bush has acted in a manner contrary to his trust as President, subversive of constitutional government to the great prejudice of the cause of law and justice, and to the
manifest injury of the people of the State of Massachusetts and of the United States of America.

Be it resolved that George W. Bush, by such conduct, warrants impeachment and trial, and removal from office and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States;

Be it resolved that our Senator, XXXXXXX, and Represetative, XXXXXXXXX, introduce in the General Court calling for submission of these charges to the U.S. House of Representatives under Section 603 as grounds for George W. Bush's impeachment.

Be it further resolved that our Representative in Congress, Marty Meehan, join as a co-sponsor to Rep. John Conyers’ HRES 635 IH (appendix A), a resolution calling for the creation of a a select committee to be known as the Select Committee on Administration Predetermination to Go to War

Be it further resolved that our two Senators, Edward M. Kennedy and John F. Kerry, join as co-sponsors to Senator Russ Feingold’s resolution “Relating to the censure of George W. Bush” - S.RES.398.IS (appendix B).

Accepted by unanimous vote of the XXXXXX Democratic Town Committee on March 20, 2004.
