Pat Robertson and the Iranian President: What's the difference?
Is there really any difference between the two fundamentally? They gave very similar statements on Sharon's stroke. No doubt the two would accuse each other of being evil hell-bound heathens, but when you get down to it, aren't they basically the same thing in two different religions? Hopefully these similar comments get the public to wake up and realize our home grown Christian fundies are just as nuts as the Muslim fundies.

2. While Pat espouses some pretty
strict and crazy theocratic spew - he is in no power to implement it - and I doubt he would if he could (he really is more charlatan - gimme the money - then real theocrat) - the Iranian President has the power of his govt behind him. Makes the latter a little more powerful and threatening.

Per their individual spew - the are much more similar than either would choose to admit.

8. Pat Robertson and the Iranian president: what's the difference
Although I think Robertson is just awful and certainly corrupts Christianity, please don't paint all Christian fundamentalists with the same brush. I am one and VERY far left and extremely politically involved in my hometown. Most of the Christian right are not following what Jesus said at all. He said to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, heal the sick, care for the prisoners, love the children, don't judge, look to the beam in your own eye; that if someone asks for your coat, give them your hat too (social justice). He said don't broadcast your good deeds, but do them in secret, blessed are the peacemakers and those who hunger for justice. David was an adulterer and murderer, Paul killed Christians, Peter betrayed him; the thief was welcomed into paradise...he loves sinners forgiving not judging as people like Robertson do. He said to those stoning the adulterous woman "let he without sin cast the first stone" and that others have specks to our beams (of sins). The Bible says to forgive debts every seven years, love and pray for your enemy (not use depleted uranium and missals on them. It says love the fatherless kids, not make their mom work two and three jobs. Most of all the bible says love is the most important thing and that if you have not love, you have nothing. Also remember, Christian right, that Democratic policies prevent far more abortions than Republican rhetoric.

People like Robertson and Dodson and our homegrown Rod Parsley (who hosts Ann Colter, Alan Keyes, and John Ashcroft and is trying to get "patriot pastors to support and vote Republican and allow pastors to endorse candidates (Republican of course) from the pulpit in conjunction with vote registrations drives (and James Dobson was part of this group too) without losing tax exempt status) ruin it for true Christians who try to lead good lives and follow the words of Jesus. I have had many young people tell me they hate Christians (for intolerance, etc.) and it is these very vocal , in the news people who are creating this hatred. Please remember we are not all like this.

9. Pat Robertson and the Iranian President: What's the difference
The line I had objected to was the "own homegrown Christian fundies are just as nuts"--in my previous post. This is because I see hatred for Christians has grown by leaps and bounds--especially since Bush came in. There is great disrespect shown them on Air America (which I listen to alot), for examples. This would be spoken out against if it were directed to Jewish people or black pep
I have received Dr. James Dobson (the "sponge-bob is gay" guy) newsletter over 30 years (he didn't used to be so political). I have grown to dislike him very much since them but stay on the list receiving citizen (his political magazine) just to see how much he violates his tax exempt status and the intolerance he spews.

Unfortunately, he has great influence. He said on email that he can send out an email on a topic to his millions of listeners and scores of them contact Congress giving them more response than on anything they get--giving the impression most Americans are against or for something while really it's just him welding his power with his sheep-like flock. This is certainly wrong.

He now has a spin off group where he can endorse people and say anything without loses his tax exempt status (as it is a separate group) yet he uses his several million people flock he's built up through focus on the family and hence, yields tremendous power. He also makes tons of money from this.

He has a lot of nerve saying he focuses on the family. Every issue rails against gays, saying they harm kids and the family--- yet in 30 years, I have yet to hear him speak of the things that really harm the family and kids.

For example, if your mom lost welfare and you have no involved dad and your mom now must work two or three jobs that would hurt a child or the family.

If your dad was killed or injured or not there due to fighting our illegal war in Iraq, that would harm kids or the family.

If your parent or brother, etc. died of cancer or diabetes because they had no medical insurance or your mom could not afford antidepressants or antipychotic drugs due to no health care and they inadvertently abused or neglected you because of untreated mental illness that would certainly hurt the child or family.

If your family became homeless because congress cut housing recently, that would certainly hurt the child or family...or if you didn't have enough food and congress cut (as it did in December) food stamps or school lunch that would hurt a child far more than gay marriage ever could.

If you had to live in poverty because your grant or loan for school was now gone and education is the only proven way out of poverty (besides crime) that would hurt the family and future families.

When they cut child support enforcement in Dec., that hurts families, especially if the custodial parent doesn't have money for a lawyer.

If they cut the VA and dad is always in pain that hurts the family as does never raising the minimum wage or rising energy costs.

This list could go on and on, yet Dobson never focuses on any of that. He makes me sick and this type of person--ones who blame 9-11 or Katrina on gays or abortion are idiots.

11. oh that's easy...
one is the delusional head of state and can command a large army with powerful weapons and a legion of zealous followers.

the other is the nigh daily voice that whispers in the ear of a delusional head of state that commands a large army with powerful weapons, AND the nuclear football, along with having a legion of zealous followers. oh and a gigantic global corporate empire, replete with a massive propaganda channel, et al, slated to wreck more evil long after he's dead.

obviously you should fear the second more. there ya go, and now you know! :D
