Gary Webb conspiracy ?

I was just browsing through NNDB.com and clicked on the info about CIA/Contra whistle-blower Gary Webb. It said that his 2004 suicide was caused by gunshot "wounds" to the head. Multiple "wounds"-as the site pointedly stated-"Explain that one."
I haven't seen threads about this on DU. Does anyone here have links, or better info on this? Sounds like the brave Mr.Webb was suicided-or do I have the facts wrong? I always meant to get his book, and have always been angry at the editors for selling him out.

he was relegated to less interesting writing jobs and eventually no one would hire him because of political influence and others writers ganging up and claiming his story wasn't accurate, I think m maybe it was someone at the WaPost that did this (figures). His ex wife swears that his death was really a suicide. He became really depressed when he was silenced, writing was the only thing he really cared about it sounds like. It kind of seem like if the CIA or whomever wanted to kill him they would have done it before he lost (unjustly) his credibility and career.
I firmly believe that our government does kill people who know too much, etc.., I 'm not sure about this one, though, they had kind of already destroyed him.

This sounds so much like the 60 Minutes story on the Air Force man (his rank and name escapes me) who "blabbed" about the cocaine flights out of McAllen, Texas and Homestead AFB in the '80's and, sure enough, he was destroyed and the wife came home from shopping one day to find him dead in the kitchen from "self-inflicted gunshot wounds." Same M.O. These important events just go straight down the memory hole. Amazing.
