Spineless in Arkansas

News Item: Some schools in Arkansas are ordering their teachers to avoid using the word "evolution" and to describe geological specimens as "very, very old" instead of millions of years old because the schools fear further backlash from fundamentalist Christians.

Wait. There are schools in Arkansas?

1. I just want to point something out...
Notice that the schools say they are doing this because they fear further backlash from fundamentalist Christians. NOT because they believe it. That to me is somehow more frightening than the fundies on the Dover school board.

2. The Amerikan Taliban strikes again.........
These "teachers" are AFRAID to teach accepted, documented Science because of possible reprisals from religious fanatics. Sound familiar? If Muslim Fundamentalists are evil in the Reich-Wings eyes, what makes Christian Fundamentalists any less dangerous in OUR country?

5. When did "very, very" become a number?
How about using only real science in science class?

:dunce:

That could be a start.

What the hell is wrong with these people?

8. Good luck with the shortfall of scientists, Arkansas.

I bet the slipping education standards are due to the teachers union and no prayer in schools. :tinfoilhat:

Next the RW people will attack the not mentioning specific ages as 'sucking up to the atheist agenda' and then, well, goodbye my American friends. Was nice seeing you in the intellectual realm.

Or perhaps the fundies will finally make some claims that can be refuted in front of peoples eyes, rather than the standard 18.4 seconds it usually takes to destroy a frothball argument.

9. Exactly what is this? This guy in Chicago just says this but gives no
source. Maybe, he just made it up! I've seen no stories in any of the Arkansas papers.
