U.S. Constitution: Do Not Shred
It's going to be an action-packed week. Whaddaya say we join the good folks at Firedoglake and make our voices louder?

via Firedoglake:

The Rubber Stamp Republican Congress is about to get a wake-up call.

For Phase One: The Senate Judiciary Committee will be holding more hearings on the illegal domestic NSA spying without a warrant on Tuesday. They will also be holding hearings on Sen. Russ Feingold’s censure resolution on Friday. We’d like to get their attention, and let them know that illegal actions of the President and upholding the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are issues about which Americans care deeply.

Title it: US Constitution: Do Not Shred
Talk about: Bush's illegal power grabs: NSA, his signing statements, etc., Congress's Constitutional obligations

Don’t forget to start with U.S. Constitution: Do Not Shred. Oh, to be a fly on the wall in John Cornyn’s office when that came across the fax. Mwahahaha.

There is a lot more to come. This is just the first step.

6. Hoping...
Here's a sample fax (from a commenter on Firedoglake) and a shameless kick to boot.

President Bush, under his claim of Unitary Executive Power, asserts that you and the rest of Congress are basically irrelevant as a
check or balance against Presidential overreach. He believes that he has the authority to suspend the Constitution at will and to disregard part or all of any law he disagrees with. He has all but voided the 4th amendment with his illegal wiretapping of Americans and apparently has claimed he can conduct warrentless physical searches as well.

You took an oath to Perserve and Protect our Constitution from ALL enemies foreign and domestic and that would include the president if it applies. If you continue to allow this petty little Tyrant, George Bush to deconstruct the foundation of our Democracy that so many thousands have died to protect, you should resign.

U.S Constitution: DO NOT SHRED

NOTICE TO SENATORS RECEIVING THIS FAX

The following is a mission-critical document. It must not be destroyed.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it*, is to protect the right of the people to be secure in their persons by knowing, without a doubt, that the government lacks the authority to wiretap them without a warrant detailing probable cause.

*Please note that you may not reject this mission. You have already sworn to defend the Constitution. Not the president, not the party, not even the lives of the people. The Constitution.

Your target’s code name is Executive Power Abuse. It bears the following identifying features: Blatant disregard for Congressional law-making authority (and executive lack of authority to do same); tendency to withhold information from superiors (i.e., the public it ostensibly serves); self-important smirk.

No tolerance will be given to the tired argument that opposition to this illegal “program” somehow equates to opposing protection from terrorism. If that were a decent excuse, you could lock us all in our houses to keep us from getting run over by drunk drivers. That is the logic of a police state. It’s safe, but it’s not free.

Please be advised that any action to shield the administration, taken for pure political gain or threat of retaliation by the media and/or your fellows in government, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of our votes against you.

DOCUMENT FOLLOWS.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

END TRANSMISSION.

TRANSMITTER: The American People

This message will not self-destruct, and hopefully, neither will your political career, if you do your job right.
