Rep. Debra Maggart, R-Hendersonville, said she still believes homosexual couples should not be allowed to adopt children. In fact, in addition to e-mail correspondence with a master’s student at Vanderbilt publicized recently, in which she said as much, she has also said homosexual couples may molest the children they adopt.


"We also have seen evidence that homosexual couples prey on young males and have, in some instances, adopted them in order to have unfretted access to subject them to a life of molestation and sexual abuse," she said.

Straight men will molest boys. It isn't about body parts or they wouldn't be interested in children in the first place. Also, since most molestors were molested as children, they are often re-enacting what was done to them. Since they were boys when they were abused, abusing boys fits into the sickness regardless of what gender they prefer in adults.

I think that there should be a law, especially for these idiot political types, that forbid the use of the phrase, "Evidence shows" without providing the evidence.

The one about 90% of child abuse victims being female sounds very implausible to me, and either the claims that 95% of child molesters are heterosexual men or the studfy by Groth and Birnbaum must be flawed (the 95% figure strikes me as highly suspect - I'm afraid I suspect the real number is lower than that).

Also, that's not the relevant statistic. At present, you'll get a higher than representative ratio of reported same-sex abuse cases because in general men are more trusted to look after boys than girls, so there are more opportunities, and while I believe the vast majority of abuse takes place in the family, my understanding is that it tends not to get reported as much as abuse by strangers, and so won't show up in the statistics so much.

The relevant statistic is "is a child placed for adoption with a homosexual couple more or less likely to be abused by them than one placed with a heterosexual couple?" Does anyone have any statistics on that from countries where homosexuals are allowed to adopt?

Tennessee voters would have to show photo identification at the polls under legislation proposed yesterday by a Midstate lawmaker.

"The right to vote in this country is basic to our freedom and we should do everything we can to protect the integrity of the ballot box," said Rep. Debra Maggart, R-Hendersonville

Debate on the issue likely will be heated. The NAACP and other civil rights groups have traditionally opposed plans such as this one, saying that they discriminate against those who may not have photo Ids, including some voters of color, the elderly, the poor and the disabled.
