Does it seem to you that we were hit with a pantload of news Tuesday?

From Jason Leopold's story, to Andrew Card's resignation, to Caspar Weinberger kicking, to that other Reagan guy kicking, to the Supreme Court deciding whether the Constitution still applies, to the NSA hearings, to the demonstrations in France, to the demonstrations here, to Scalia's stand-up routine...

What the hell is gonna happen today (Wednesday)?

8. thank you for sharing that link. I have had the privilege of seeing one
total solar eclipse--standing high on the cliffs in La Jolla with thousands of others, both there and on the beach below me. it was, indeed, a stunning and magical sight.

10. I saw an eclipse in Georgia in 1984.

It was an annular eclipse, where the moon covered all but a bright ring around the sun. It was an amazing experience that I remember in great detail all these years later. It took about 2 hours from start to finish and I was at my parents' house, which was surrounded by woods. As it got darker and darker over the course of the first hour, the family dogs and cats appeared to think it was night and wanted to come inside, and all the normal "daytime" sounds ceased: no squirrels running around and no birdsong or even insect sounds. At the height of the eclipse, it was eerily quiet outdoors for about 20 minutes, and then as the sky began to lighten you could hear sounds from the forest once more, and the dogs and cats noticed that it was daylight again and wanted to be outdoors. Little by little, all the normal outdoor sounds you'd expect to hear at the end of May in Georgia came back.

We didn't get much of today's eclipse (I live in the northern part of England now and it was about 10-20% partial), but I watched streaming video of it online from Turkey, where they got the full whack. As total eclipses always are, it was breathtaking. As you say, a truly magical sight.

Edit: typos

4. Last night I heard at least three coyotes,
all screaming together, doing what coyotes do. I hear 'em fairly regularly, but not so much on the dark nights, not in groups, and not so loud. It was very dark last night.

I'm not sure if this is affecting the news cycle.

things are starting to happen in an accelerated way. Art Bell has had programs about it.

6. You are so right. I do the Elections Forum Daily News thread Mon & Tue...

Usually we have 9-15 stories a day. Yesterday had 31 stories, that's like it was just after the election in 2004.

We're rushing toward the singularity...

9. Rushing towards the singularity
Indeed!
:toast:
And stay on the lookout for the unexpected. That is, increased incidents of "novelty" in the news and in our own backyards!
