"White House Memo" Drives a Stake into the Heart of White House Lies
Bob Fertik writes, "Something remarkable happened Monday: the Corporate Media finally got sick of Bush's endless lies about Iraq, and started to tell the truth. The immediate cause was a front-page New York Times story about the "White House Memo," which proved Bush was determined to invade Iraq no matter what. Now we have reached a turning point in our "long march" for Truth. Everyone in the world knows in their heart that Bush lied. Soon everyone will say it out loud: Bush Lied. When millions of Americans say those two simple words - and the media finally joins us - Bush's reign of fear will come to a crashing halt. Let's make that happen now."

Truth Seeping Through Media After Ten Months
David Swanson writes, "There is something about this week that feels better than the average one for bringing a child into the world. I have hope that others will have hope, and that this will let them press hard for action. And there is something about bringing a child into the world that makes me want to push harder for a full measure of truth, and not be satisfied with the thrill of seeing bits of truth squeeze through. Someone said: He not busy being born, is busy dying. That certainly goes for democracies."

Kit Created to Help Towns, Cities, Counties Pass Impeachment Resolutions
Brattleboro VT has joined nine other towns and cities, five state Democratic parties, and 19 local Democratic committees in passing resolutions urging the impeachment of George Bush and -- in most cases -- Dick Cheney. ImpeachPAC is working with Progressive Democrats of America and local activists to pass similar resolutions around the country, and has created a kit to assist local organizations in the task. Take a look and give it a try. Put your town on the map of the impeachment movement!

Calling all Vermonters
Led by the spiritual descendants of the Green Mountain Boys (including carpenter/musician Dan DeWalt), Vermont is making real progress towards impeachment. Their next goal is to persuade their state legislature to formally adopt an impeachment resolution. Send this link to everyone you know in Vermont:

7. I just received this letter from my Congresswoman
Thank you for writing to me and sharing your support for an investigation into the pre-war intelligence that served as the justification for the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003. I appreciate the opportunity to learn of your views.

Last year, a classified British document summarized a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tony Blair - now known as the "Downing Street Memo" - and was leaked to the London press. This memo alleged that the United States and Great Britain secretly agreed to attack Iraq in the summer of 2002 -- well before the President sought Congressional authority to engage in military action. It also alleged that "intelligence and the facts" were being "fixed around a policy" of regime change "justified by the conjunction of terrorism and ."

This is a grave allegation. If true, it not only raises troubling questions about the legal justifications for the Iraq war, but it also casts doubt over the credibility of the Bush administration. In May, I joined 122 Members of Congress and more than 500,000 Americans demanding that President Bush answer whether he or members of his administration manipulated evidence or pre-war intelligence in the lead up to the Iraq War. To this day, we have not heard from the President or any representative of the White House on this matter.

Because the Bush Administration and the Republican-controlled Congress have blocked the ability of Members to obtain information regarding these matters, more investigatory authority is needed. As a result, I support legislation that would establish a select committee with subpoena authority to investigate this alleged misconduct and report to the House Committee on the Judiciary, of which I am a member.

Again, I want to thank you for sharing your views with me. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future about this or any other matter.

Sincerely,

Debbie Wasserman Schultz
Member of Congress

8. And another she just sent to me regarding the "Patriot Act"
hank you for sharing your concerns about the Patriot Act with me. I appreciate the opportunity to learn of your views.

I believe it is possible both to grant law enforcement agencies the tools they need to thwart terrorists while also protecting the civil liberties of all Americans. Thus, on March 7, I voted against the re-authorization of the Patriot Act because it failed to strike this careful balance.

Please know that ensuring the safety and security of all Americans is my paramount concern. Congress has no more important duty than protecting its citizens from threats of terrorism. For this reason, I recently proposed legislation that would forbid foreign governments from owning, leasing, or operating terminals in U.S. ports, including the Port of Miami.

However, the Patriot Act is flawed in its ability to protect Americans from violations of their civil liberties. For example, with a mere demonstration of relevance to an intelligence investigation, the Patriot Act grants the government access to library, medical, and gun records as well as other sensitive personal information. Like the United States Chamber of Commerce, I believe this invasion would invite unnecessary government fishing expeditions into the personal lives of innocent Americans. I further believe that investigators should be required to prove to a judge that such records have a connection to a terrorist or spy. If the Patriot Act is being hailed as an important anti-terrorism tool, it seems only fair that it be limited to terrorism investigations.

The Patriot Act's problems extend beyond these record searches. For instance, the Patriot Act continues to permit "sneak and peek" searches in almost every instance, subjecting Americans to searches without their knowledge. It also permits "roving wiretaps," which do not specify an individual target. Consequently, innocent Americans will continue to be subject to government monitoring of public telephone and computer usage.

Congress can do better than the current version of the Patriot Act. Rather than making real, substantive changes to the Patriot Act that could have fixed these grave dangers, the legislation passed by Congress and signed by the President merely makes cosmetic changes to the law. Americans need sound laws that actually protect our civil rights, not illusory laws that merely appear to do so. For these reasons, I joined 138 of my colleagues in Congress to vote against its passage.

Again, I want to thank you for taking the time to share your views. Your opinions are very important to me. Please do not hesitate to contact me again about this or any other matter.

For additional information and legislative issue updates, please visit my website at www.house.gov/schultz.

Sincerely,

Debbie Wasserman Schultz
Member of Congress

And then I get this from Senator Nelson (FL):

Patriot Act Reauthorization
I voted in favor of the Patriot Act conference report because I believe that the new provisions added to the bill have improved it. These provisions will ensure that library records are protected and that people receiving national security letters aren’t required to disclose to the government the name of their attorney or the name of the attorney they intend to consult. While these changes may not address all of my concerns regarding the Patriot Act, I believe they are a step in the right direction. I’ll work with my colleagues in the Senate to further improve the Patriot Act in the coming months.

Everyone should be so fortunate. I get similar replies to my queries. She's just a freshman, but she will be one of the greats like Barney Frank, Waxman, Nadler, Conyers, etc.

17. the funny thing is that they were planning to attack Iraq prior to 9-11
People tend to forget that one of the reasons that Bush failed to direct his attention towards Bin Laden, prior to 9-11 is because they were already making plans to attack Iraq just after the 2000 election.
