"Winning Wars via Speech Strategy" - Good For the Left
I watched some of Bush's 90 minute speech today, and it dawned on me why there are calls for more staff changes in the White House. They send Bush out on a daily basis to give speeches to convince people that this worth is still worth fighting, and was worth fighting from the beginning. That war of ideology is lost.

Every time he gives one of these speeches, he just convinces people like us even more that this war is wrong. His target is about 10% of the population who might - MIGHT - bring him back up to ~45% approval. This is the last person who has authority to go out and persuade people of ANYTHING at this point. These speeches will only keep him at ~35%.

Speaking in absolutes about a situation that is already lost in the public eye isn't doing anyone any favors, except for the fact that when giving a 90 minute speech, he's under control and not fucking up anything else in the world at the White House. In that sense, he can give as many speeches as he wants!

Until our men and women come back in something other than bodybags (which I now longingly call "Bushbags"), and wheelchairs, nothing about 35% will change.

So please, Mr. Bush, give as many speeches as you want! And I hope they get great coverage so everyone continues not giving a shit about you!
