On Media and the Complaint-The Dems Don't Speak Up
Yes. They do. I have just put up, over the last 2 hours, about 12 videos from today that represent some excellent floor speeches from House Democrats that, in the main, emphasized that this Republican Congress rubberstamps what Bush wants. After each person spoke on a given topic that was on a poster board, he or she took a large rubber stamp and stamped it by the issue.

Now, as I look to see what piqued people's interest, the Bush Speedos comment outnumbered the views on the Congressional ones 100 to one. I suppose that the joke or the oddity or the sensational may always trump more meat and potatoes videos; maybe watching, for example, Ann Coulter videos is the equivalent of corporate media's "missing white woman" syndrome.

But do remember this when people come up and say "Where are the Dems?". They may not be represented well on a television media that leans right and, when they do get a Dem, gets someone like Joe Biden that will show up anywhere anytime if there's a camera. The others, like these on the videos today, maybe.. GO HOME to their families or maybe they have other things they want to do.. or maybe they aren't invited because of their very determined and pointed views. I don't know.

I do know that the slogan that the Dems don't speak up is just not true. And every one of us that knows it needs to be counteracting it at every turn.

1. At the risk of ..
.... either stating the obvious or telling you bad news you don't wish to hear, "speaking" on the floor of the house or senate is never going to get past CSPAN.

The media's self-perceived job is to entertain, not to inform. Policy speeches are not entertaining.

Republicans are much more entertaining than Democrats - they will be buffoons, make outrageous claims, level ridiculous charges, call names, use drama and passion.

Dems don't, and this is a big part of the reason they never get on TV, and subsequently are seen as "not having a message".

Is it fair? Is it right? Is this what the "news?" media SHOULD do? Of course not, but that is the America we live in, and Republicans have adapted to it and made it their own while Dems sit around bitching about it.

4. But that's not precisely my point... this isn't so much a diatribe
about corporate media as it is the watching habits of those who ARE Dems. I'm not talking about what corporate media "should" do-I think we all agree that in an ideal world, they would not only represent all points of view but would stop presenting infotainment as news. That's not my battle here.

Rather it is to say that they are speaking out, even IF corporate media doesn't cover them (like, they didn't cover the Dems speech, instead rambling, incoherent Bush). And I'm saying that since we all KNOW that, we need to counteract the LIE that Dems don't, just because you don't see and hear them on corporate media.

And i thank you for posting these video links, I would miss allot of these messages if it wasn't for CoF. So thanks!

2. EXACTLY!!! Instead of HELPING the media stereotyping of Dems, speak up
FOR the many Dems who put up solid proposals and efforts every day. Point the finger at the corporate media suppression of most Democrats.

3. I go to your site daily to watch your good work.
If I don't click on your posts here, that's why. You seem to capture everything that interests me.

The amount of time required to do the work you do isn't lost on me; I especially appreciate the nice editing you do. You deserve a standing ovation, but this is the best I have:

8. Not Invited
They only want Democrats who will support the Repiglican Party Line.

Do you really think Russ Feingold would turn down the kind of press
exposure that Lieberman and Biden get if it were offered to him?

It doesn't get offered to him, and never will be.
