Making our slaves/indentured servants legal!
Edited on Thu Mar-30-06 03:59 AM by MikeNY
Let's face it, under our current system, the people who come to live and work in this country against the law, in one way or another, once they come here, are indentured servants and slaves with NO RIGHTS.

I am not saying they should be granted full amnesty or anything... BUT

It has occured to me recently that most of this "Guest Worker" legislation appears to be a way to get people registered as a NON-CITIZEN with NO RIGHTS! And maybe, some day, if you prove that you are willing to WORK for the rest of your life, we will allow you to become a US citizen...

Whereas, if accepted, you will WORK (to prove you are a Good Citizen of course) for the rest of your life, with the SMALL chance that you might actually be able to retire with some social security benefits that will have enough power to allow you to buy a couple candy bars by the time you retire.

So, where am I going with this?

The guest worker concept is just a way to legalize a practice that is already immoral, unethical, and illegal.

1. Slave implies unwillingness to be brought here, they came of
their own free will. I don't see slavery or indenture-ness to their employers.

3. Definition of slave...
NOUN: 1. One bound in servitude as the property of a person or household. 2. One who is abjectly subservient to a specified person or influence: “I was still the slave of education and prejudice” (Edward Gibbon). 3. One who works extremely hard. 4. A machine or component controlled by another machine or component.

If they are not slaves now, wouldn't you say they would be, after this legislation is passed? Amazing! This is being twisted so hard by the spin doctors coming up with this garbage on the news. Once this legislation is passed, nothing changes. These people work for garbage wages, for a bunch of corporate executives. I wonder what big business lobbyists are tying up some loose ends on Capitol Hill tonight with this rediculous idea.

2. The cheap labor conservatives are the ones pushing this
They want a workforce with more docile workers who will just be grateful to have a job, any job, and will be less likely to agitate for better benefits or unionization because the Mexican workers are comparatively better off here than back home.

4. not slavery.
Just another form of cheap labor--this country was built on cheap labor and exploitation--among other things. Immigration is a complex issue and the troglodytes in power will surely foul it up worse.

5. Which one???
The Bush revolving-door guest worker plan is exactly what you say, because there isn't any chance for them to ever become a citizen. When their 6 years are up, bam, back home they go.

The McCain-Kennedy Bill has worker protections in it. It also turns over the enforcement of wage and worker laws to the Dept of Labor, who do a better job than INS. They will have protections and benefits and the right to join a union. This will help turn that indentured servant status around, which will help all US workers.

6. A pool of cheap labor that can't vote.
That's the guest worker program.

7. Let's adopt the Lou Dobbs approach to illegal aliens then - he is ........
.....the only one I know who disagrees with both liberals and conservatives on illegal aliens. To me that says there has to be something right in what he is saying. BTW, this goes for BOTH BORDERS and all illegal aliens regardless of color, race, or anything else.

8. When they start raping the non-citizen women or forcing the...
...non-citizen husbands, at the pain of maiming injuries, to horribly whip their own wives for the transgression of attempting to avoid being sexually abused, then I might call it slavery. When folks don't volunteer to undergo such treatment, then I might call it slavery. When it is done legally, then I might give it that name. Slavery ain't voluntary.
