8. Actually, as a New Yorker
I'd say the crime actually isn't so bad as the imagination of non-New Yorkers make it out to be.

(I grew up in NYC and only moved fairly recently)

12. I know - I grew up in Buffalo, NY
and totally sponged off my NYC friends digs on breaks from college - such a great place to be.

I just know that there are a few thin-skinned folks here - and threads like these get them typing.

23. Truth be told...

I'm just a short Metro trip from NYC, and absolutely love the place. Never had "an incident." I'm perfectly comfortable walking just about anywhere (well, sort of), and have walked from Tribeca to Grammercy Park to Soho to the Village to Times Square...I love it love it love it. Oh, (on edit) and last year we sent our kid to Brooklyn for the summer to attend Pratt Intitute. He was a master of the subway in a couple of days!

But face it, the thread wouldn't have worked had I said I just visited Oneonta.

19. Looks like you could take care of that overblown NOLA flooding with a mop.
...Meanwhile, looks like the Houston Astrodome is "working out very well" for "those people."

15. I hate to brag, but
On Tuesday, a local woman got into a rumble with a homeless person getting a bit too enthusiastic about demanding change in a parkade. She was a bit shaken, lost her purse and got her hair mussed.

I live in a Canadian city of about 1 million residents. It was front page news and the morning drive-in radio show spent half an hour interviewing people.

In New York that probably happens every five seconds.

22. There is crime in NYC to be sure
But it is nowhere near as prevalent as it is made out to be. It is usually the non-New Yorker imaginary that dreams up the high crime rate.

...this very interesting Iraqi woman -- who used to date Uday -- and who took off her burka for this picture to show how free the women of her country are now that we've brought them democracy:

24. while we're debunking the liberal media
I'm sick of the drumbeat of negativity regarding the supposed negative impact on Michigan's economy by the alleged outsourcing of autoworker jobs. These are the photos of Flint that those whining liberal pinkos over at CNN are never going to show you: a burgeoning manufacturing base and throngs of contented middle class citizens strolling peacefully in a thriving downtown area. Who knows why the media keeps these images hidden, preferring to focus on the few problem areas.
