Poll; 73% say U.S. actions in ME indirectly aid recruitment of terrorists

Americans question the ability of the United States to create democracy in other countries, and are divided on whether successful efforts could even make the U.S. safer, according to a poll released Thursday.

Only 36 percent of those surveyed by the Public Agenda Confidence in U.S. Foreign Policy Index believe the U.S. can help spread democracy � a major objective for the Bush administration in Iraq and throughout the Middle East.

73 percent worry that U.S. actions in the Middle East are indirectly aiding the recruitment of terrorists.

Only 22 percent believe the U.S. government can do "a lot" to create democracy in Iraq.

Of course killing innocent people will breed terrorism. Sheesh, what the hell is wrong with anyone who doesn't think otherwise. Especially since this is probably the crowd who so wants revenge (from whoever doesn't matter) for 911.

5. Would that more U.S. voters had considered this question a week

before the 04 election.

On FRESH AIR yesterday Tom Friedman said that there was only one point to the Bush presidency -- Iraq.

Had it gone well, Bush would be lauded by historians as a bringer-of-peace & freedom, etc.

As it has failed miserably, he is likely to be remembered as a failed warmonger.

And he deserves that status richly.
